Job description
Role Overview
This position supports the smooth functioning of engineering stores and plant material control at the Silvassa site. The focus is on accurate receipt, storage, issue, tracking, and documentation of materials, spares, consumables, and scrap, while meeting internal controls and statutory obligations.
The role sits within the Castrol organisation, part of bp Group, and successful candidates become part of the Castrol ring-fence. If you are already in the ring-fence, your employment is expected to transfer with Castrol to new ownership.
Castrol is a global lubricants business and a publicly listed company in India, with a long-standing presence across automotive, industrial, and marine lubricant markets. The business operates with a large distribution footprint and a strong focus on innovation, customer relationships, and career growth in a fast-moving environment.
Engineering Stores and Material Handling
Handle the day-to-day flow of engineering store operations, including receiving, checking, preserving, storing, and issuing materials and spares. Ensure items are identified, labelled, coded, and arranged in an orderly way so they can be accessed safely and efficiently. Maintain the store layout to support FIFO practices, bay audits, 5S standards, and safe working conditions. Also assist with arranging materials in plant areas during shutdowns, maintenance work, and project execution.
Inventory and System Records
Keep inventory records up to date in the system, including receipts, issues, returns, and stock transfers. Track FIFO, shelf life, and ageing of inventory, and flag slow-moving, non-moving, and obsolete items. Support cycle counts, physical stock checks, reconciliations, and audit-related activities. Assist with monthly provisioning for inventory and spares in coordination with engineering and finance teams.
Purchase Order, GRN, and Billing Support
Support PO creation, material follow-up, and coordination with procurement. Ensure receiving documents such as GRN and MRN are properly prepared and matched against purchase orders. Help with vendor bill processing, document submission, and follow-up with finance and accounts. Keep track of pending POs, open GRNs, and invoice status.
Plant Consumables Management
Manage plant consumables such as filters, inks, solvents, fasteners, electrical items, and safety spares. Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels and raise indents in time to avoid shortages. Issue consumables only against approved requests and maintain proper consumption records.
Scrap, Rejected Materials, and Compliance
Oversee the generation, segregation, storage, and disposal of scrap in line with company procedures. Maintain scrap registers, weight records, and handover documents, and work with authorised vendors and internal teams during disposal. Support audits involving scrap and rejected materials. Also coordinate statutory weighing scale stamping and calibration, and maintain certificates and records related to weighing instruments and compliance. All work must align with internal SOPs, safety norms, and statutory requirements.
Reporting and Cross-Functional Coordination
Maintain manual and system-based logs, registers, and store data. Prepare monthly reports covering critical spares, consumption, ageing, scrap, and capex materials. Support capex material tracking, documentation, and cash flow coordination with project and finance teams. Work closely with engineering, maintenance, production, procurement, finance, and safety stakeholders, especially during shutdowns, breakdowns, and urgent material requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in stores and inventory control.
Skills and Competencies
The role calls for practical knowledge of engineering stores processes, inventory control methods, FIFO handling, ageing analysis, and stock optimisation. Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word is needed for data entry, tracking sheets, and reporting. The candidate should be organised, accurate in documentation, comfortable following SOPs, and effective in coordination and communication.
Qualification and Experience
A B.Com degree is preferred. The role requires 3 to 5 years of experience in engineering or plant stores within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Working Conditions and Accountabilities
This is a factory/plant-based role and may involve support during shutdowns, audits, and periods of high maintenance activity. The incumbent is responsible for following HSSE requirements defined in OMS and contributing to safe, compliant, and reliable operations. Completion of legally required training under the Ethics and Compliance calendar, along with any other mandatory training assigned from time to time, is also expected.
Culture and Inclusion
bp promotes a workplace built on purpose, performance, care for others, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The organisation values open dialogue, respect for different viewpoints, and the freedom to speak up and contribute at every level. Reasonable accommodation is available for candidates with disabilities during the application or interview process, as well as for performing essential job functions and accessing employment benefits and privileges.
