Role Overview

The Technical Translator will handle oral and written translation and interpretation of correspondence, forms, articles, technical manuals, and other instructional or technical content between English and Arabic. The role also includes clerical support and assisting by giving direction and guidance to the Translator. This Senior Translator position acts as a lead role, including training and guiding assigned team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate written material between Arabic and English in a variety of business contexts.
  • Convert documents and other content accurately and concisely while preserving the original intent, tone, facts, and nuance.
  • Review, edit, proofread, standardize, and finalize translations produced by other staff or contractors.
  • Arrange translated material and complete it in line with standards for structure, clarity, brevity, style, and terminology.
  • Investigate legal, technical, and scientific terminology relevant to assigned work.
  • Coordinate with subject-matter experts and build specialist knowledge in translation domains.
  • Develop writing guidance, reference documents, and maintenance manuals for the translation team.
  • Help expand and maintain an internal terminology database.
  • Protect the confidentiality of company documents and communications.
  • Support and coach less senior translators.
  • Prepare translation reports and related documentation.
  • Carry out other related tasks as needed to support effective business operations.

General Duties and Compliance

  • Factor zero-harm principles into annual performance reviews, including commitment to safety and environmental values.
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for health and safety and raise concerns proactively to avoid harm.
  • Support environmental initiatives aimed at reducing the organization’s carbon footprint.
  • Stay familiar with applicable laws, regulations, and standards for the area of operation.
  • Identify hazards and environmental aspects early and apply appropriate controls to reduce risk.
  • Work with HSE specialists from the QSHESE Department on complex matters.
  • Follow company management system requirements covering quality, health, safety, environment, information security, business continuity, security, and emergency preparedness.
  • Attend QSHESE inductions, training sessions, briefings, or meetings when required.
  • Recognize that safety, quality, security, and environmental compliance are everyone’s responsibility.
  • Report incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, or unsafe conditions and suggest improvements where appropriate.
  • Ensure visitors, including contractors and PMCs, understand emergency response plans for the premises.
  • Act ethically and in line with the company code of conduct.
  • Take on additional duties as business needs evolve.

Accountabilities

The role owner is accountable for delivering high-quality final translations that are accurate, free from errors, faithful to the original text, and submitted within deadlines without delay.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in English Language or a similar discipline is required, along with at least 5 years of experience in technical translation, preferably within railways and transportation. The ideal candidate must be fluent in both Arabic and English.

Skills and Competencies

The position calls for strong technical translation and technical writing ability, especially in legal and engineering environments, solid command of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, strong language proficiency, and a deep understanding of English and Arabic grammar, composition, vocabulary, spelling, and language structure. The role also requires the ability to write clearly for specific audiences.
