Job description

About the company

BlueScope is an Australian-founded global business operating across 15 countries, with a workforce of more than 16,500 people. The company focuses on safety, performance, and wellbeing while developing steel products and solutions that serve communities now and into the future. Its well-known brands include COLORBOND steel, used across major structures such as hospitals, bridges, and stadiums.

The opportunity

BlueScope’s Orrcon Manufacturing division is seeking a Storeperson / Onsite Driver to join the Salisbury, Queensland site. This is a permanent, full-time role on a fixed afternoon shift, running Monday to Friday from 1:48 PM to 10:00 PM.

No background in operations or manufacturing is required, as full on-the-job training and ongoing support will be provided to help you develop a long-term career. The starting weekly pay is from $1,289.34, depending on skills and experience, and increases as you progress through the structured level system. The afternoon shift also includes a 15% loading, and public holidays are paid.

BlueScope values people from all backgrounds and experiences, and is committed to a workplace where everyone feels respected, included, and able to be themselves. Women and First Nations people are encouraged to apply. The business also supports career growth through training and development for Operations Team Members.

Role overview

You will be part of the team producing high-quality steel products, with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and attention to detail so that products are delivered on time and to the expected standard.

Key duties

  • Move products between nearby on-site storage areas using a purpose-built Heavy Combination (HC) vehicle.
  • Load and unload steel products safely from trucks and customer vehicles.
  • Operate forklifts and cranes as part of day-to-day work.
  • Pick and pack customer orders accurately for delivery or collection.
  • Carry out general warehouse and despatch tasks.

This is not a long-distance driving position. The HC licence is needed because products are transported between nearby site storage locations using public access roads within the site.

Candidate profile

The company is looking for someone with a strong safety focus, a willingness to learn, and a collaborative, positive attitude. Previous experience in operations or manufacturing is helpful but not essential.

Recruitment process

The hiring process is designed to help both sides understand the opportunity and the workplace. It includes an application, an online assessment, a face-to-face interview with a site tour, and—before starting—successful completion of a pre-employment medical, including a urine drug and alcohol screen, plus reference checks.

Why join BlueScope

BlueScope offers a safe and supportive environment where people can learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful work. Team members get the chance to build expertise, work with specialists, experience an inclusive culture that values wellbeing, contribute to smarter and more sustainable ways of working, and help deliver outcomes that support customers and communities.

The company is also committed to sustainability, including action on climate and its 2050 net zero goal, and offers flexibility through its B-flex program. Its purpose is to create and inspire smart solutions in steel that strengthen communities for the future.
