Job description
About the company
Tata Electronics Private Limited is a greenfield initiative from the Tata Group focused on advanced manufacturing of precision components. The company is developing India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor foundry, designed to make chips for power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers, and high-performance computing logic. These chips are intended to support fast-growing sectors such as automotive, computing, data storage, wireless communications, and artificial intelligence.
Tata Electronics is part of the Tata Group, which has operations in over 100 countries across six continents and works with the purpose of improving lives through long-term value creation built on trust.
Job summary
The role is centered on strengthening and diversifying the supply chain for a major semiconductor project. The selected candidate will define and track performance measures such as milestone completion, sourcing progress, cost-saving opportunities, and operational efficiency to support management decisions. The position also involves managing project schedules and resources, identifying and implementing risk-mitigation actions, and continuously monitoring activities to prevent delays and surface risks early.
Another key responsibility will be building and maintaining business processes and systems that track readiness of critical manufacturing equipment across a global supply chain. Creating dashboards and reporting program status and key metrics to stakeholders across Engineering, Finance, and Manufacturing will also be an important part of the job.
Key responsibilities
- Source and buy critical as well as non-critical spare parts for front-end semiconductor equipment such as etch, deposition, lithography, and CMP tools.
- Create and maintain an approved vendor list for equipment parts and consumables.
- Partner with equipment engineering, maintenance, and procurement teams to predict demand and manage inventory efficiently.
- Evaluate spare-part suppliers from both technical and commercial perspectives, including OEMs and third-party providers.
- Carry out supplier audits and risk reviews together with Quality and Procurement teams.
- Support savings initiatives through alternate-part qualification and localization efforts.
- Review technical details and, when needed, reverse engineer spare parts to confirm form, fit, and function equivalency.
- Oversee part lifecycle activities including obsolescence planning, phase-in/phase-out, and refurbishment programs.
- Keep complete records such as BOMs, drawings, specifications, and usage history.
- Work with Fab operations, Maintenance, Equipment Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to ensure part specifications match equipment needs.
- Help new tool installations and fab ramp-up by ensuring critical spares are available on time.
- Track spare-part performance using indicators like MTBF, failure rate, lead time, and total cost of ownership.
- Address quality or fit-related issues by coordinating corrective actions or design updates with suppliers.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Engineering, or a similar discipline.
- Between 5 and 10 years of experience, preferably in semiconductor manufacturing or sourcing of equipment spare parts.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor equipment brands and assemblies such as AMAT, LAM, TEL, ASML, and KLA.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and MRP systems, along with the ability to read technical drawings, CAD data, and BOMs.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and supplier relationship management capabilities.
- Understanding of global sourcing, cost modeling, and inventory optimization.
- Useful additional background includes part localization, second-source development, Lean or Six Sigma certification, and familiarity with fab operations, preventive maintenance schedules, and maintenance best practices.
