Job description

Role overview

This position is for an IBM Netcool Probe Specialist working with large-scale telecom fault and event management platforms. The job centers on building, tailoring, and supporting Netcool probes and event-processing solutions so alarms and events are ingested reliably, correlated correctly, and automated efficiently across mixed-vendor network management environments.

What you will do

  • Plan, install, configure, and maintain IBM Netcool probes, with coverage across SNMP, CORBA, Kafka, JMS, and vendor EMS integrations from Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE, Cisco, and Samsung.
  • Adapt probe rules, lookup tables, and enrichment logic to improve alarm normalization, duplicate suppression, and severity assignment.
  • Work with Netcool setups in both 2-tier and 3-tier models, including ObjectServer primary/backup pairs, DSD, WebGUI, Impact, and related database elements.
  • Create and maintain ObjectServer automations such as triggers and procedures, and build Impact policies for correlation, enrichment, root-cause analysis, and automatic ticket creation.
  • Improve ObjectServer and database throughput through SQL optimization, indexing, and routine maintenance.
  • Support CI/CD workflows for Netcool configurations and assets using Jenkins, Docker, and Groovy.
  • Automate deployment and day-to-day operations with Shell, Perl, Python, and Ansible.
  • Build or support custom Java-based utilities and integrations for EMS, middleware, or other supporting systems when needed.
  • Configure WebGUI event views, filters, tools, and dashboards to make operations easier and faster.
  • Investigate issues such as event ingestion failures, delayed alarms, missing events, and alarm storms.
  • Carry out functional, regression, and performance testing for probe changes and platform updates.
  • Work closely with customers, EMS suppliers, and internal stakeholders to understand network needs and deliver scalable event management solutions.
  • Provide L2/L3 support for production systems that are critical to business operations.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of practical, hands-on experience with IBM Netcool probes, especially SNMP, CORBA, Kafka, JMS, and REST API-based integrations.
  • Strong background in telecom EMS/NMS integration across multi-vendor setups.
  • Deep working knowledge of ObjectServer automation and Impact policy development.
  • Hands-on Core Java development experience.
  • Basic understanding of databases and SQL.
  • Experience with high-availability Netcool architecture design and support.
  • Strong scripting and automation ability using Shell, Perl, Python, and Ansible.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Docker.
  • Good grasp of telecom FCAPS and fault management workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, networking basics, and NetScaler/Citrix environments.
  • Strong analytical approach, troubleshooting ability, and communication skills.

Eligibility

Applicants should hold a B.Tech or B.E. degree in any specialization.
