Job description
Role overview
Microsoft’s Azure Core organization is expanding rapidly, and the Azure Client Tools team sits at the center of that growth. This group builds the engineering tools that make Azure easier to use for developers and operators, including Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, Terraform on Azure, and related automation experiences.
The team works closely with Azure service teams and open-source contributors worldwide to create command-line tools and workflows that help customers deploy, manage, and scale cloud workloads with confidence. The role is suited to someone who enjoys developer experience work, open-source collaboration, and building products that have broad impact across millions of users.
Microsoft’s culture is grounded in a growth mindset and a mission to empower every person and organization to achieve more. The company emphasizes respect, integrity, accountability, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop tools and experiences that simplify complex Azure workflows and improve developer productivity.
- Work with Azure service teams to connect Azure capabilities into open-source client tools such as Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, and Terraform on Azure.
- Build solutions that are secure, observable, dependable, and provide a strong end-to-end experience for users.
- Ship enhancements and new capabilities based on input from customers, open-source communities, and internal teams.
- Deepen technical understanding of existing tools and processes, and help shape the future of Azure client tooling through modernization and innovation.
- Participate actively in open-source development through code reviews, design conversations, documentation updates, and community collaboration.
- Collaborate across Microsoft and the wider open-source ecosystem to build high-quality tools that accelerate cloud adoption.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another related technical field, or have equivalent practical experience. The role requires hands-on coding experience in one or more languages such as C#, JavaScript, Python, or Go, along with strong problem-solving, design, and debugging ability. A clear focus on quality, performance, and engineering excellence is also expected.
Security and screening requirements
This role is subject to Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. As part of that process, the selected candidate must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check at the time of hire or transfer and again every two years afterward.
Preferred background

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools and practices such as Terraform, Bicep, or Ansible is also valued.

Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants are considered without regard to protected characteristics under applicable laws, regulations, or ordinances. The company also considers qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements. If you need help or a reasonable accommodation because of a disability during the application or recruiting process, a request can be submitted through the accommodation request process.
