Job Description
The Shift Supervisor provides operational support to the Store Manager, overseeing daily tasks to ensure seamless operations within the Thrift Store. In addition to supervisory duties, this role also functions as a Sales Associate.
Accountabilities
- Engage with customers and donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Maintain the integrity and quality of all donated items.
- Accurately process all customer transactions, including cash and debit sales.
- Contribute to achieving store sales targets by upholding high customer service standards.
- Perform opening and closing procedures for the store as required.
- Process incoming donations, including loading/unloading, sorting, pricing, and storing.
- Develop product knowledge to effectively answer customer inquiries via phone and in person.
- Monitor store activities to ensure security and safety.
- Handle merchandise safely and maintain an organized stockroom, assisting with stock rotation.
- Support inventory control by receiving, sorting, and pricing donations according to guidelines.
- Assist in planning store layouts and creating attractive visual displays, including window presentations, to enhance store appeal and maintain a tidy environment.
- Replenish inventory on the sales floor as directed by supervisors.
- Remove inventory from the sales floor when necessary.
- Ensure proper sorting and processing of all donated goods, adhering to quality standards.
- Maintain an attractive and organized store appearance, including restocking shelves, cleaning, sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
- Adhere to all store policies and procedures.
- Participate in inventory reconciliation processes, such as cycle counting.
- Deliver exceptional service to all guests and donors.
- Act as a Team Lead or Working Supervisor for Store Associates in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Provide operational guidance and on-the-job training to staff as needed.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by complying with Health & Safety regulations.
- Undertake other related duties as assigned.
Critical Relationship Management
Internal: NRO Administration, TS management and staff.
External: Donors, clients, contractors.
Managerial/Technical Responsibilities
Reports directly to the Store Manager. This role has no direct reports.
Financial And Material Management
May provide guidance on specific procedures to others. Possesses moderate material responsibility and may handle petty cash occasionally.
Working Conditions
This is a permanent full-time position. The role operates in a standard store environment. It requires constant physical exertion, including stretching, lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking. Employees may experience frequent exposure to fumes, dust, and fluctuating temperatures. Adherence to deadlines is mandatory. The position involves frequent interpersonal interactions, potentially including conflict resolution with guests, donors, vendors, and employees. Work tasks are varied, with some repetitive duties.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
A willingness to understand and support the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications for job responsibilities is essential. Compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and adherence to The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures are required. An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications And Certifications
Completion of some high school education is required.
Experience And Knowledge
A minimum of two years of experience in a store or warehouse setting is necessary.
Skills And Capabilities
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Physical capacity to frequently lift and carry up to 30 lbs without assistance, including bending, twisting, pulling, and pushing product.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to successfully complete applicable screening and background checks as determined by The Salvation Army.
Additional Information
The target hiring range for this position is $19.19 to $24.00 per hour, with a maximum potential earning of $28.79 per hour. Salary placement within this range will be determined by factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
