Job description
Role Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted shift operations by coordinating the crew, assisting the shift superintendent, and supporting day-to-day operation and maintenance activities. The aim is to help the plant achieve production goals while upholding safety, reliability, and quality expectations.
Core Duties
- Support the preparation of shift operating plans and help execute daily activities in line with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Help roll out new initiatives and projects that are designed to meet upcoming shift operation needs.
- Contribute ideas for improving site procedures and technical specifications so they stay aligned with established best practices.
- Monitor equipment performance, carry out predictive maintenance support, analyze data, and prepare reports using OMPro to improve site efficiency.
- Inspect equipment routinely, track process parameters, and coordinate with other teams so maintenance work is completed quickly and equipment handover takes place safely.
- Oversee safe shutdowns, efficient restarts, and preservation of equipment and facilities during extended stoppages.
- Take preventive action to spot and reduce operational risks and hazards, helping avoid unplanned shutdowns and keeping operations safe and efficient.
- Diagnose failure causes, suggest troubleshooting actions, and recommend measures that reduce repeat breakdowns.
- Implement PIOs and support sample collection and improvement trials during shifts so activities run without disruption.
- Maintain accurate shift logs with complete records of operational events and site details.
- Support plant operations during upsets and abnormal situations.
- Understand rotary machine seal systems, including the importance of seal pot level and pressure.
- Know compressor lubrication systems and the significance of temperature, pressure, and flow conditions.
- Track LO/LC valve status and understand field instrument locations.
- Coordinate with other plants to maintain SOC levels for raw materials.
- Work with the maintenance department for planning and execution of jobs.
- Differentiate between routine, one-time, and shutdown-related jobs.
- Carry out risk checks during handover, takeover, and job execution, and lead toolbox talks to reinforce safe practices.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed so the work environment remains secure and incidents are avoided.
- Identify near-miss incidents through root cause analysis, document them, and report them so patterns can be addressed and repeated events prevented.
- Drive compliance with the permit-to-work system and make sure site activities follow relevant rules and guidelines.
- Understand the API 754 incident classification framework and update the portal whenever required.
Education
A diploma or bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology is required.
Experience
The role calls for 3 to 7 years of experience as a shift engineer in site operations, including at least 2 years as a panel executive.
