Job Purpose
This position is responsible for handling aircraft and building fire incidents, medical emergencies, hazardous material situations and other emergencies within airport premises. The role exists to protect passengers, crew and airport staff through firefighting, rescue support and emergency medical assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Act quickly during aircraft incidents, structural fires, medical calls, hazardous material events and other airport emergencies.
- Deliver firefighting, rescue support and emergency medical response to safeguard people and property.
- Suppress fires using suitable methods and agents such as water, foam, dry chemicals and related equipment.
- Carry out search-and-rescue tasks in smoke-affected or otherwise dangerous environments.
- Administer first aid and basic life support until qualified medical responders take over.
- Support the movement of patients to medical facilities when required.
- Inspect and maintain fire vehicles, extinguishers and personal protective equipment on a daily basis.
- Track firefighting stocks and equipment to ensure all resources remain ready for deployment.
- Take part in emergency drills, simulations, ICAO-mandated training and fire exercises.
- Keep accurate incident notes, training documentation and shift logs for audit and compliance purposes.
- Follow all applicable local, state and central regulations, as well as SOPs, while carrying out duties.
- Spot hazards during patrols and inspections and take prompt corrective action.
- Prepare and submit incident reports, equipment logs and other required records.
- Work closely with airport operations, medical teams and outside emergency agencies during incidents.
- Coordinate emergency actions and practice drills with the Duty Manager, ATC and airport authorities.
Stakeholder Coordination
Internal stakeholders include the Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations Team, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew Members, Engineering & Maintenance Team, and the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Team. External stakeholders include the Local Fire Services Department, airlines operating at the airport, ground handling companies, ARFF equipment manufacturers/service providers, insurance companies, local community leaders and civil aviation authorities.
Qualifications and Experience
A Diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or an equivalent qualification is required, along with certification from an accredited firefighting academy. Candidates should have 2 to 3 years of firefighting experience, preferably in aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) operations.
