Refractory Mason

Job Summary

The Refractory Mason role at Dangote Cement Plc focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing refractory linings in kilns, furnaces, and other equipment that operates at very high temperatures. The aim is to support safe operations, strong plant performance, and efficient production.

Key Responsibilities

• Fit refractory bricks, castables, and insulating materials in kilns, cyclones, preheaters, and related equipment.
• Maintain the required alignment, spacing, and thickness according to technical specifications.
• Complete anchoring and lining tasks as needed.
• Examine refractory linings for signs of wear, cracking, or other damage.
• Remove damaged refractory material and replace it with fresh installations.
• Handle patching work and urgent repairs during normal operations and shutdown periods.
• Prepare surfaces before installation by cleaning and leveling them.
• Mix and apply refractory products such as castables, mortar, and gunning mixes.
• Make sure installed materials are properly cured and dried.
• Carry out regular checks to confirm the condition of refractory linings.
• Work strictly in line with installation methods and manufacturer instructions.
• Identify defects and suggest corrective measures.
• Observe all safety rules and use the required personal protective equipment.
• Operate safely in hot and confined work areas.
• Keep the worksite clean and orderly.
• Share updates on completed work and materials consumed.
• Assist supervisors in monitoring maintenance jobs and shutdown activities.

Requirements

• Trade Test Certification is required.
• Between 3 and 5 years of experience working as a Refractory Mason in a cement plant or other heavy industrial setting.
• Hands-on experience with kilns, furnaces, or comparable high-temperature equipment.
• Solid understanding of refractory materials and how they are installed.
• Ability to interpret simple technical drawings.
• Physically fit with the stamina needed for demanding site work.
• Careful, detail-oriented, and committed to high-quality workmanship.
