Job description
About Vector
Vector is focused on building a cleaner, better-connected energy future through innovation, strategic partnerships, and technologies that improve resilience and access. The business is investing in smarter energy systems and sharing solutions that support sustainability and efficiency in Auckland and beyond.
About the Role
As a Project Engineer in Vector’s Capital Programme Delivery team, you will help deliver capital investment projects across Auckland’s electricity network. You will act as the technical lead within project teams, partnering with project managers and design specialists to guide the design stage, review engineering outputs, and make sure concepts are carried through accurately into construction.
The position involves maintaining technical assurance throughout the full project lifecycle. That includes carrying out site inspections, completing quality checks, and confirming that work meets Vector standards as well as relevant industry requirements. It is a practical, delivery-focused role that combines engineering analysis with real-world project execution.
You will be involved in technical discussions, coordinate design work across internal stakeholders and external consultants, and remain engaged on site during delivery. The work is varied and fast-moving, with several projects progressing at the same time and frequent interaction across a broad stakeholder network.
One of the key advantages of the role is the chance to work client-side at Vector, giving you greater influence over project outcomes. You will gain exposure to a wide range of work, from core network infrastructure to emerging technologies, while building strong connections across a large organisation and its delivery partners.
What We’re Looking For
- A professionally qualified engineer with a Bachelor of Engineering and a solid electrical engineering background, preferably with experience in electricity distribution or the broader energy industry.
- Between 3 and 5 years of relevant project engineering experience, including design review work, delivery exposure, and meaningful contribution to project results.
- Strong technical judgement, with the ability to assess designs, guide technical conversations, and support quality and compliance through to construction.
- Confident stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical ideas clearly, influence decisions, and work well with internal and external partners.
- A proactive and team-oriented mindset, with the initiative to take ownership, share ideas, and perform well in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent projects.
Why Vector
- A strong benefits package designed to support your wellbeing, future security, and professional growth.
- Access to internal career opportunities, personalised development plans, and investment in learning.
- A workplace that values diverse perspectives and encourages people to contribute ideas that drive innovation.
- The opportunity to do meaningful work that helps keep Auckland powered and supports a sustainable energy future for New Zealand.
Additional Information
Vector encourages people to apply even if they do not meet every requirement, as enthusiasm, capability, and a fresh perspective may be just as valuable.
The organisation is committed to diversity and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, identities, and abilities.
Application Deadline
Applications close on Sunday 21 June 2026, although interviews may begin earlier.
