Job description
About the role
TRA is developing a new insights platform designed to help organisations better understand brand performance and customer behaviour, enabling sharper business decisions. The team is hiring a Product Engineer to help define the next stage of the product.
This opportunity suits an early-career engineer with strong potential or an intermediate engineer looking for greater ownership. The focus is less on total years of experience and more on your ability to build strong products, learn quickly, and solve meaningful problems.
You will join a small, ambitious product team working on a SaaS platform with international reach. This is a practical full stack role where you will deliver new features, improve the platform experience, and explore how AI can change the way clients work with insights.
Your work could involve building new web interfaces, developing AI-assisted workflows, creating APIs, improving data pipelines, or making the platform faster, more scalable, and easier to use. You will contribute across the full product cycle, from shaping ideas and evaluating technical approaches to building, releasing, and learning from user feedback.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and enhance features across a global SaaS product.
- Use AI tools and new technologies to speed up delivery and identify fresh product opportunities.
- Collaborate with Product, Data, Design, and Client Services to turn concepts into dependable user experiences.
- Improve the platform’s scalability, speed, and ease of use.
- Contribute to how product work is built, tested, and released at TRA.
- Apply curiosity, sound judgement, and initiative when making technical and product decisions.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building modern web applications or SaaS products.
- Strong product thinking and a genuine interest in solving real user problems.
- Interest in AI and how it can reshape software, insights, and customer experiences.
- Comfort working with cloud platforms, APIs, front-end frameworks, databases, and AI tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive approach, balanced with attention to quality and long-term maintainability.
- Familiarity with a modern TypeScript-based stack is helpful, including React on the front end, Node.js on the back end, AWS, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and infrastructure-as-code, though experience with every tool is not required.
Team and working setup
You will be part of a growing product team within TRA, combining the pace of a scale-up with the support of an established, award-winning agency. The role is closely tied to real client challenges and involves working alongside specialists in data, research, and strategy.
The company has been recognised as Research Agency of the Year, AU/NZ, at the B&T Awards 2024, AFR BOSS Most Innovative Company in Professional Services for 2024, and Campaign Asia-Pacific Research Agency of the Year.
This is a flexible working environment, but the position must be based in Auckland. You will need to work from the office at least two days each week and collaborate closely with the product, data, design, and client teams.
Application notes
Applicants should include their salary expectations and confirm their right to work in New Zealand.
