About the role
LAB3 is among the largest Azure-focused engineering groups across Australasia, with capabilities spanning Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Security, and Networks. The team is hiring a Principal Consultant for Azure Cloud & DevOps to join its Professional Services function, with flexibility to work from anywhere in New Zealand or Australia.
What you'll do
- Take ownership of technical client engagements and guide Azure assessments, solution delivery, and implementation work.
- Shape, advise on, build, and manage Azure cloud, Terraform, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps solutions that improve automation, scale, reliability, security, and performance, including use of LAB3 proprietary tools where helpful.
- Create proof-of-concept environments to validate ideas and show clients how the technology can be applied.
- Facilitate workshops and support cloud adoption initiatives with customers as needed.
- Analyse findings, estimate costs, communicate recommendations, and prepare client-facing reporting.
- Contribute to hiring by taking part in interviews and selection for new team members.
- Use a practical, hands-on approach to deliver technical outcomes, including automation and optimisation within project and program timelines.
- Help shape practice governance, operating processes, and documentation.
What the role calls for
- Substantial background in solution architecture, consulting, and hands-on delivery in Azure cloud and DevOps environments, with advanced knowledge of Azure, Terraform, cloud integration, infrastructure as code, scripting, automation, ARM, and ideally AKS.
- Prior consulting experience working with external stakeholders in Microsoft, cloud, or automation service organisations.
- Exposure to Azure Local is a strong advantage.
- A genuine commitment to ongoing learning, skill development, and coaching or mentoring others.
- Must be a resident of Australia or New Zealand with full working rights.

- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and PowerShell
- Azure DevOps
- Cloud automation with Bash, Python, and Ansible
- Azure Resource Manager templates and Bicep
- Azure Functions, Key Vault, and backup solutions
- Azure networking, Azure security, IAM, and RBAC design
- Azure Local
- Azure integration services such as Logic Apps and API Management, plus microservices
- Azure Security Centre operations
- Azure management groups and subscription administration
- PowerShell module development and maintenance
- Secure Azure SQL and cloud storage solutions
- Cloud identity, security, governance, licensing, Azure Backup, Azure Portal, and Active Directory
- Open-source container platforms, including AKS Kubernetes
