Role overview

This contract role is with an international workforce solutions firm supporting a major oil and gas client in Qatar. The position is focused on inspection support during EPC and startup activities, continuing through handover to the permanent asset team. The aim is to help ensure the new facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably by identifying defects early and working in line with established procedures, instructions, and performance targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform external visual inspections and, where needed, supplement them with NDT checks on company assets such as vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, pressure safety devices, piping, and lifting equipment, then issue the relevant inspection reports.
  • Carry out preliminary integrity reviews for static equipment and piping using company procedures, interpret the findings, and prepare inspection reports through Meridium or an equivalent system.
  • Review maintenance and capital project work in the field to confirm that welding, painting, fabrication, and installation activities follow approved practices and comply with applicable international codes and standards.
  • Execute or oversee NDT activities on mechanical equipment and piping as instructed, including dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, hardness, eddy current, IRIS, thermography, PMI, metallography, borescopy, and paint DFT verification, while strictly following safety requirements.
  • Create inspection recommendations in Meridium and/or through the proper notification process, then monitor actions through to closure so that potential risks are addressed in time.
  • Keep inspection tools, instruments, and equipment in usable condition and coordinate the planning and purchase of additional items when needed.
  • Take on other inspection duties assigned by the Inspection Engineer or Senior Inspection Engineer to meet annual objectives and special assignments.
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports and records, update inspection results and related data in computerized systems, and follow up recommendations raised through SAP until the associated work is completed.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractor resources when required to ensure compliance with company standards and the expected quality of service.

Qualifications and experience

  • HND in Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of in-service inspection experience.
  • Strong spoken and written English skills.
  • Comfortable using MS Word and Excel, with familiarity in relevant software tools and specifications.
  • Experience working with Meridium or similar data management software.
  • Awareness of risk-based inspection, corrosion and corrosion control, and common damage mechanisms.
  • Basic understanding of plant processes and materials.
  • Working knowledge of inspection methods such as UT, MT, PT, RT, and advanced NDT.
  • Familiarity with applicable international codes and specifications.
  • API 510/570 certification or an equivalent qualification, with API 653 as required.
