Role overview

Arriva is hiring qualified PCV Bus Drivers for its Hinckley depot. This role is about more than driving a bus — it supports the local community by helping people get to work, school, and everyday appointments safely and reliably.

As part of the team, you’ll interact with familiar passengers, deliver a dependable service, and contribute to a positive experience on every route.

Pay and compensation

The advertised rate can reach up to £33.86 per hour, depending on day, time, and whether mentoring has been completed.

  • During mentoring: Monday to Friday pay starts at £13.55 per hour, rising to £14.05 after 6pm.
  • During mentoring: Saturday shifts are paid at £14.55 per hour.
  • During mentoring: Sunday and Bank Holiday shifts are paid at £15.55 per hour.
  • After mentoring: Monday to Friday pay starts at £15.05 per hour, rising to £15.55 after 6pm.
  • After mentoring: Saturday shifts are paid at £16.05 per hour.
  • After mentoring: Sunday shifts are paid at £17.05 per hour.
  • After mentoring: Bank Holiday shifts are paid at £33.86 per hour.

Working pattern

  • Shift plans follow a rotating 5-in-7 pattern and are prepared 3 to 6 months ahead.
  • Start times can begin from 04:30 in the morning.
  • Evening shifts may finish at around 01:00.
  • One weekend in four is typically off.
  • The main rota averages 40 hours per week.
  • Extra hours may be available depending on request and operational need.

Requirements

  • A valid PCV licence is essential; applicants without one should apply for a trainee route instead.
  • No more than 6 penalty points are allowed on the driving licence.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening.
  • Strong customer-facing and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts is necessary.
