About the Role

NAMIC Singapore is hiring a Packaging Design Engineer to support HP’s print packaging design function. The role focuses on creating and improving packaging for printer products, including cartons, rigid boxes, and molded pulp cushioning. You will collaborate with several teams across the product lifecycle and gain practical exposure to supply chain activities while applying packaging design principles to enhance protection, cost efficiency, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create packaging concepts for HP printer products based on established engineering standards, specifications, and design requirements.
  • Develop structural packaging formats such as cartons, rigid boxes, molded pulp components, and cushioning systems.
  • Support mechanical and thermal hardware work, including electronics enclosures and manufacturing tooling.
  • Carry out defined test plans for new and existing designs, covering tolerance checks, fit/function validation, shock and vibration testing, EMI, safety, and reliability.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, outsourced developers, and manufacturing partners to keep projects moving smoothly.
  • Contribute to cross-functional project teams delivering dependable, cost-conscious, and high-quality packaging solutions for complex products.
  • Apply core engineering knowledge to solve packaging development challenges in a practical way.
  • Share design updates, project milestones, risks, and issue resolution progress with managers and partners.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers to ensure alignment on outputs, timelines, quality standards, and budget expectations.
  • Lead small to medium mechanical hardware and packaging engineering teams on moderately complex development efforts.
  • Improve process efficiency and support delivery of packaging that meets business goals through strong documentation and project coordination.
  • Use technical judgment and previous experience to resolve straightforward problems using established approaches.
  • Represent the packaging and mechanical function throughout the lifecycle of larger or more complex projects.
  • Coach, guide, and support junior team members where needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related technical discipline, or have equivalent technical experience. The role typically requires 4–7 years of relevant experience in engineering design, hardware development, packaging design, or a related area. An advanced degree with at least 5 years of related experience is also acceptable.

Technical Requirements

  • Hands-on experience designing cartons, rigid boxes, and molded pulp packaging structures.
  • Ability to work with 3D CAD tools used for mechanical or packaging design.
  • Working knowledge of design for manufacturability, packaging processes, and production tooling.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability, including spotting process gaps and proposing workable solutions.

Professional Skills

  • Comfort using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams, suppliers, and outsourced partners.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team setting.

Work Level and Scope

  • This is an intermediate to experienced-level position with a regular work schedule.
  • The role can influence multiple teams and may involve leading a team or project while helping drive information review and group decision-making.
  • Work is generally carried out within established guidelines and involves moderately complex issues.
