Role overview

The Operational Planner role supports the Identity and Exploitation Operations (IDEX) team by bringing together strategic, operational, tactical, analytical, and program management capabilities. In this position, you will coordinate planning and execution activities for an Army Service Component Command supporting live operations across Europe and Africa.

What you will do

You will take the lead in mission planning efforts, contribute to planning sessions, review policies and procedures, and help design and roll out programs. The role also calls for deep subject matter knowledge in deliberate planning and crisis action planning.

You will provide research, analytical support, and technical input to build Concept of Operations (CONOPs), Orders, Concept Plans (CONPLANs), and Operation Plans (OPLANs). In addition, you will help plan and coordinate exercises, training events, and other operational activities as new requirements emerge. The position includes frequent interaction with joint, multinational, and inter-agency partners in support of real-world events across Europe and Africa.

Required experience and qualifications

  • At least 6 years of experience supporting military operations, operational planning, or staff functions within the U.S. Army or a joint setting
  • At least 3 years of experience leading or supporting the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), Operational Planning Teams (OPTs), and mission planning at Division level or above
  • At least 3 years of experience creating, coordinating, and executing CONOPS, OPORDs, FRAGORDs, EXORDs, and related operational products from planning through execution
  • Background in aligning cross-functional stakeholders, incorporating operational inputs, and driving planning work from concept through mission execution
  • Experience with operational planning, battle rhythm management, staff integration, and command-level decision support
  • Experience briefing senior leaders and guiding planning conversations across operational and technical teams
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred background

  • Experience in Army Service Component Commands (ASCC), Corps, Division, or Joint Task Force planning environments
  • Exposure to campaign planning, operational design, or broader strategic planning work
  • Experience incorporating operational, technical, cyber, intelligence, logistics, or information-related capabilities into planning
  • Familiarity with Army operational systems and tools such as Palantir, Maven Smart Systems (MSS), or similar mission command platforms
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams in fast-moving operational settings
  • Understanding of the Joint Planning Process (JPP) or joint operational environments
  • Master’s degree
