Job description
Role overview
Higgins Masterton Quarry produces and supplies quality roading materials, asphalt, concrete aggregates, and garden products. The business is seeking a Multi Skilled Operator to join its Aggregates and Earthworks team in Wairarapa.
This is not a typical plant operator position. The main focus is the quarry weighbridge, with additional involvement in quarry and civil operations. It suits someone who values responsibility, precision, customer contact, and the chance to get onto machinery when needed.
This is a permanent, full-time position with guaranteed hours and room to build your capability over time.
Core duties
You will be the main control point at the quarry weighbridge, making sure all vehicle movements are captured correctly and handled efficiently. You will also assist the wider team with plant operation and general quarry tasks whenever required.
- Run the weighbridge for all vehicles entering and leaving the site
- Prepare, issue, and manage weighbridge dockets
- Check load information and make sure records are accurate
- Enter data into weighbridge software for invoicing and reporting
- Liaise with drivers, supervisors, and customers
- Control site entry and allow access only to authorised vehicles
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly weighbridge office
- Provide administrative support such as filing, reporting, and stock tracking
- Operate plant and machinery including excavators, loaders, rollers, watercarts, bobcats, and similar equipment
- Support labouring tasks when needed
- Help maintain safe and efficient quarry and earthworks activities
What you need
The ideal person will have practical site experience, good accuracy, and confidence working with both people and plant.
- Full Class 1 licence and WTR are essential
- Working knowledge of aggregate materials is required
- Background in construction, quarrying, or roading is preferred
- Experience operating a range of plant such as excavators, loaders, and rollers
- Comfortable with basic computer use and data entry
- Strong focus on detail and correctness
- Hands-on, proactive approach to work
- Dependable, adaptable, and safety-conscious
Benefits and workplace highlights
- Competitive hourly pay
- Permanent role with a guaranteed 40-hour week
- Employer KiwiSaver contribution matched up to 4%
- Opportunities to develop skills and gain additional licences
- Access to benefits for you and your family
- Z fuel discounts, including one free pie and coffee each month
