Job description

About the role

Oatly, the original oat milk company founded in Sweden about 25 years ago and now growing across the United States, is hiring a Manager of Public Relations for its North American team. This position reports to the Senior Director of Public Relations, North America, and supports media relations and thought leadership tied to business growth, market expansion, and product development. The role sits within Corporate Affairs and works closely with public affairs, community management, internal communications, sustainability, and nutrition experts, as well as the global PR team on worldwide corporate initiatives and executive visibility.

The company is looking for someone who reflects its approach: listening first, choosing creative and effective practices over generic best practices, valuing partnership, and bringing both confidence and humility to the work.

What you will do

  • Support and help execute the North American PR strategy with the Senior Director, promoting the company’s strategic priorities across business, consumer, and trade media while helping protect and strengthen brand reputation proactively and in response to issues.
  • Develop and deepen relationships with reporters, stay informed on relevant media outlets and editorial beats across business, consumer, and trade coverage, and handle media and partner engagement on behalf of the brand.
  • Review and assess reactive media, partner, and event opportunities to determine which are most relevant.
  • Help secure impactful earned media coverage in print, digital, and broadcast channels, including product placement and feature stories.
  • Manage day-to-day coordination with PR agencies, influencer agencies, and other external partners.
  • Work in close coordination with public relations colleagues around the world.
  • Track cultural conversation trends and identify timely opportunities for the brand’s voice to enter the wider narrative.
  • Serve as the primary communications partner for North American leaders in nutrition and sustainability, helping shape mission-driven storytelling in the region.
  • Act as a communications partner for cross-functional teams, including corporate affairs, creative, commercial, food and drink experience, product development, and related groups.
  • Support commercial teams with PR for account launches, partnerships, and other announcements.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure messaging remains accurate, clear, and differentiated.
  • Support crisis communications alongside the Senior Director of PR and the Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
  • Help identify, prepare, and staff speaking opportunities and events for global and North American spokespeople.
  • Identify relevant industry awards and oversee application development and submission.
  • Create press materials such as releases, executive bios, fact sheets, Q&As, and media backgrounders.
  • Track industry developments, extract useful category insights, and shape strong pitch angles around important industry topics.
  • Build reporting materials, oversee monitoring and coverage tracking, and share updates regularly with internal cross-functional teams.
  • Assist the Senior Director of PR in managing the annual North American PR budget for assigned workstreams.

What we are looking for

  • Three to five years of experience in public relations, external brand communications, or journalism, with a preference for exposure to emerging consumer brands.
  • Solid media relations knowledge and the confidence to communicate with media, stakeholders, and executives both with supervision and independently.
  • Comfort building trust-based relationships with reporters, conference organizers, and brand partners.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to craft pitches, press releases, and headlines with originality.
  • Interest in or background related to nutrition and sustainability, along with an ability to help drive strategy and execution in those areas.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, plus the flexibility to adapt when priorities or information change.
  • A genuine connection to the company’s mission around health, sustainability, and transparency.
  • A self-directed working style, accountability, and the ability to thrive without constant oversight.
  • Comfort working in a smaller, fast-growing company where individual impact matters.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and ease with ambiguity and building from the ground up.
  • A willingness to bring personality and creativity to the team.

Perks and benefits

  • Flexible vacation that can be used when you need it.
  • Strong benefits coverage, including pet insurance.
  • Paid volunteer time off throughout the year.
  • Complimentary six-packs of oat milk.
  • Supportive coworkers who genuinely want each other and the company to succeed.
  • A nimble and agile work style, while remaining grounded in a long company history.

Compensation

The base salary estimate for this position is $105,000. Total compensation can vary based on geography, internal pay alignment, experience, education, specialty, training, skill set, level of experience, and specific location. Depending on the package, compensation may also include bonus, commission, or equity.
