Job description

Position summary

This role is a central part of the company’s expanding logistics operations and reports to the VP of Integrated Services. The manager will keep freight, drivers, and schedules aligned in a busy dispatch setting, while coordinating transportation, speaking with customers and drivers, resolving issues quickly, and ensuring all records are entered correctly in the TMS. The opportunity is well suited to someone with experience in freight brokerage, construction logistics, or transportation operations who performs well in high-activity environments.

Key responsibilities

Dispatch, shipment coordination, compliance, documentation, vendor communication, cross-functional support, reporting, and team development are all part of this position.

  • Assign trucks and drivers across the day, including route planning, schedule management, and load allocation.
  • Coordinate freight types such as LTL, FTL, heavy haul, towing, and equipment moves.
  • Keep carriers, drivers, customers, project managers, and supervisors informed in real time so work stays on schedule.
  • Respond quickly and professionally to customer transportation requests and schedule needs.
  • Resolve route changes, scheduling conflicts, and other operational issues as they occur.
  • Support oversized and overweight permit coordination when required.
  • Record dispatch and billing information accurately in TMS and other systems.
  • Prepare and check shipping documents, including BOLs, packing lists, delivery confirmations, and driver paperwork.
  • Verify that driver paperwork is complete and accurate before it is processed.
  • Keep records current in TMS and/or WMS to maintain clean operational data.
  • Help maintain documentation that is ready for audits across freight movements.
  • Support adherence to DOT rules, FMCSA standards, and relevant transportation laws.
  • Assist with hazmat documentation and related handling requirements where applicable.
  • Help ensure permits, driver hours, and load documents meet compliance expectations.
  • Act as the daily contact for carriers and 3PL partners, escalating service concerns when necessary.
  • Collect freight quotes and help compare rates as directed by logistics leadership.
  • Monitor carrier performance against KPIs and SLAs as needed.
  • Work with warehouse operations to match freight timing with inbound and outbound activity.
  • Support sales and project management teams with logistics planning for launches and time-sensitive deployments.
  • Keep internal teams updated on delays, exceptions, or timeline changes.
  • Assist Finance with freight invoice review, issue resolution, and spend reporting.
  • Maintain tracking dashboards and help prepare KPI reports for leadership.
  • Identify inefficiencies and share improvement ideas with the VP of Integrated Services.
  • Help roll out new systems, tools, and process improvements as the function grows.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop logistics coordinators.
  • Promote accountability, urgency, and ongoing improvement within the logistics team.

Required qualifications

This role calls for substantial logistics leadership experience, strong systems knowledge, and the ability to operate calmly in a fast-moving environment.

  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in logistics or supply chain, including 3 years or more in a senior leadership position.
  • Demonstrated success in building or materially scaling a logistics operation rather than simply inheriting one.
  • Strong understanding of domestic freight, including LTL, FTL, final mile, and 3PL management.
  • Practical experience implementing or improving TMS and/or WMS tools.
  • Strong analytical ability with the capacity to create reporting structures and use data to guide decisions.
  • Experience managing carrier and vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts.
  • Working knowledge of DOT, hazmat, and customs compliance requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness to take on tasks beyond core responsibilities when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as business needs require.

Preferred qualifications

  • Background in heavy haul, oversized or overweight permits, or specialized equipment moves.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA rules and DOT compliance expectations.
  • Exposure to international freight documents and customs processes.
  • Experience in data center, warehousing, or technology-focused logistics settings.
  • APICS certification or active progress toward one.

Ideal candidate traits

  • Stays composed when the pace is hectic and multiple issues need attention at once.
  • Has a sharp eye for detail and values accurate records and clean paperwork.
  • Communicates proactively and keeps others informed without being prompted.
  • Adjusts easily when priorities and schedules change.
  • Works well with cross-functional teams and understands the bigger operational picture.
  • Is motivated to learn and grow into broader logistics responsibility over time.

Company context

The employer is a fast-growing warehousing and logistics business based in Fort Worth, Texas, serving clients that manage critical infrastructure. The team is building for long-term growth and looking for someone who wants to take ownership and help create something durable.
