Job description
Position Summary
The Logistics Manager will direct inbound and outbound transportation activities to make sure raw materials and finished products move safely, compliantly, efficiently, and at a sensible cost. The position also owns carrier performance management, assists warehouse and transportation functions, supports continuous improvement, and works closely with warehouse, supply chain, brokers, and sales operations teams to keep service levels high in a busy manufacturing and distribution setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day shipping, receiving, transportation, and third-party logistics activities.
- Build and sustain productive partnerships with carriers, brokers, and transport vendors to improve service dependability and control costs.
- Apply solid knowledge of multi-mode transportation networks, including domestic and international freight and intermodal movements.
- Create, track, and report transportation metrics such as on-time delivery, freight claims, detention, equipment utilization, and transportation spend.
- Maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, SQF, and internal safety and transport requirements.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound scheduling and routing so production plans, warehouse capacity, and customer demands are met.
- Examine transport problems, damage, shortages, and service breakdowns, then implement corrective measures.
- Drive improvement projects aimed at safer operations, better service, stronger efficiency, and lower costs.
- Keep transportation documentation, reporting materials, SOPs, and KPI dashboards up to date.
- Work with warehouse and shipping teams to improve trailer use, dock movement, load security, and shipment accuracy.
- Review transportation data to uncover process improvements and assist with carrier reviews, bidding activities, and contract discussions.
- Help manage peak demand periods and operational interruptions when needed.
- Encourage a workplace culture centered on safety, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a similar field is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, warehousing, or supply chain roles within manufacturing, beverage, food, or consumer packaged goods environments.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is required.
- Strong understanding of transportation workflows, carrier oversight, routing, and freight efficiency.
- Working familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, SQF, and food/beverage compliance standards.
- Experience using WMS, ERP, and yard management systems (YMS).
- Excellent analytical, planning, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and transportation reporting platforms.
- Capable of juggling multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Able to work across warehouse, production, and office settings.
- Must be able to regularly walk warehouse aisles, loading docks, and transportation yards.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must follow all PPE and safety requirements.
- May need to provide occasional evening, weekend, or holiday coverage depending on operational needs.
