Role overview

Rotana Hotels is seeking energetic, self-motivated recreation professionals to join the team in Abu Dhabi. The position is located at Bloom Arjaan by Rotana, Abu Dhabi, where the lifeguard will oversee the swimming area, help prevent accidents, and support guests who need assistance.

Key duties

  • Alert swimmers to unsafe areas and help maintain a safe pool environment.
  • Respond to drowning emergencies, provide rescue support, and deliver first aid when needed.
  • Keep order and monitor behavior within the swimming area.
  • Test pool water using a water-testing kit to check chlorine levels and pH balance.
  • Support or supervise swimming events and provide swimming guidance when required.
  • Make sure the swimming pool is kept clean and in proper condition.
  • Check that sun loungers are clean, correctly arranged, and functioning properly.
  • Monitor pool water temperature regularly and ensure it meets the expected standard.
  • Keep the pool deck free from dirt and debris throughout operating hours.
  • Confirm that umbrellas are properly secured to their stands.
  • When umbrellas are not in use, tie them down for safety.
  • Offer emergency care and treatment until medical responders arrive.
  • Maintain awareness of the club’s facilities, operating hours, offers, and pricing.

Education and experience

Applicants should be trained and certified as lifeguards, with strong swimming ability and ideally a diploma or university degree. Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a hotel setting, is preferred. The role also requires physical fitness and the ability to work long hours outdoors.

Skills and attributes

Strong English communication, solid guest service, and good interpersonal skills are advantageous. The ideal candidate should be customer-oriented, comfortable handling complaints, positive in manner, approachable, and energetic. The role also calls for someone who works effectively under pressure, contributes well in a multicultural team, and adapts easily to changing situations.
