Role overview
In this full-time, on-site position in Riyadh, the Laboratory Technician will carry out routine and advanced testing, handle specimens, and use diagnostic instruments according to established procedures. The position also includes reagent and sample preparation, accurate reporting of results, and entry of findings into the laboratory information system. The technician will support equipment upkeep, stock monitoring, and quality control/quality assurance work while following strict infection-control and safety practices.
Key duties
- Run routine and specialized laboratory analyses in line with approved protocols.
- Receive, process, and manage specimens with proper handling and tracking.
- Prepare samples and reagents needed for laboratory testing.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
- Record and update test outcomes accurately in the laboratory information system.
- Help maintain lab equipment and report issues when they arise.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and support replenishment planning.
- Assist with quality control and quality assurance checks.
- Work with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to support diagnosis and treatment.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and hazardous-material handling procedures at all times.
Qualifications and expectations
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on laboratory capability, including specimen handling, test execution, and consistent compliance with standard operating procedures. Practical experience with laboratory instruments, along with knowledge of calibration and basic fault-finding, is important. A good understanding of quality control and quality assurance methods is needed, as well as the ability to assess results, spot irregularities, and escalate concerns appropriately. Candidates should hold a recognized diploma or qualification in Medical Laboratory Technology or a closely related discipline, with any required professional certification or licensure meeting local rules. Prior work in a clinic or hospital laboratory is preferred. The role also calls for careful recordkeeping, attention to detail, computer literacy, familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems being an advantage, and the flexibility to work shifts or longer hours when patient care demands it.
