Job description

About the role

Westpac New Zealand is expanding its KYC function and hiring specialist professionals for multiple streams. The position is fixed term through May 2027. Each stream contributes to protecting customers and the business from financial crime while ensuring a smooth, compliant, and customer-centred onboarding journey.

What you’ll do

You will serve as an early point of contact for new customers, helping them move through onboarding with clear guidance and a supportive approach. The work includes checking documents, evaluating risk, and partnering with internal teams to keep the process efficient and compliant.

Depending on the stream, you may support customers joining through digital channels, brokers, or remote pathways. This includes carrying out due diligence, monitoring customers referred through broker channels, and working sensitively with a range of customers, including vulnerable groups, using digital tools.

Another stream focuses on small and medium business customers, including companies, trusts, and other more complex structures. In this area, you will complete enhanced due diligence, review ownership and business arrangements, and maintain compliance across different customer types.

Experience and skills

The role calls for at least 2 years of experience in KYC, onboarding, or AML-related work. You should understand New Zealand AML/CFT obligations, especially those connected to legal entities, and bring strong communication skills with a sharp eye for detail. Experience with digital identity checks and broker-led channels is valuable, along with sound analytical, investigative, documentation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Why join Westpac

You will be part of a team that values integrity, collaboration, and ongoing improvement. The role offers the chance to deepen your financial crime prevention expertise and help shape better customer onboarding experiences.

Benefits

Westpac offers development opportunities and supports internal mobility. The organisation also recognises strong performance, provides a school holiday subsidy to help with family commitments during school holidays, and includes 2 volunteer days per year.

About the organisation

Westpac is focused on helping build a fairer and stronger New Zealand for its people, customers, and communities. With more than 160 years of history, the organisation is guided by the purpose of creating better futures together. It values individuality, encourages people to be themselves at work, and aims to develop talent and support a wide range of ambitions.

How to apply

Applicants are asked to submit a CV and cover letter. The closing date for applications is 16 June 2026.

Additional information

This is a fixed-term position until May 2027. The employer encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, including neurodiverse candidates and those living with chronic health conditions or disabilities. Attitude, passion, qualifications, experience, and capability are all considered important. The role is based in the Greater Tauranga Area and is listed as remote.
