Role overview
Oriel House Hotel is looking to hire a full-time Kitchen Porter to support the kitchen team and keep back-of-house areas operating to a consistently high hygiene standard. The role is based in Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland and sits within the Talbot Collection.

Purpose of the role
The main aim of this position is to maintain excellent cleanliness and hygiene across kitchen spaces while meeting hotel standards and hygiene regulations.
Core duties
- Arrive on time, wear the correct uniform, and maintain a neat personal appearance.
- Follow the company’s clocking and attendance procedures.
- Keep personal hygiene and grooming standards at a high level.
- Handle pot wash, dish wash, storage, larder, rubbish skip, wash-up, and staff-area cleanliness.
- Complete cleaning tasks according to the roster and sign off daily and weekly checklists.
- Wash pots, pans, and kitchen equipment and return them to the correct storage areas in an orderly way.
- Clear bins when full or whenever requested.
- Carry out deep-cleaning tasks for kitchen, larder, equipment, and storage spaces as scheduled.
- Keep cleaning supplies such as mops, brushes, and detergents stored properly.
- Use the protective clothing supplied when dealing with hazardous materials.
- Report broken or faulty equipment to the senior chef on duty.
- Support the hotel’s customer service standards and help maintain four-star quality at all times.
- Follow fire, safety, hygiene, and health-and-safety requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2005.
- Report accidents, damage, or incidents and take action where possible.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and staff handbook guidance.
- Protect company funds, goods, and assets through careful and responsible conduct.
- Pass on customer comments to management and handle complaints professionally when required.
- Work proactively to support energy efficiency in the hotel.
- Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and management.
- Follow the departmental SOP manual and complete duties as directed.
- Look for opportunities to promote and upsell company products and services where appropriate.

- Deliver excellent service at all times and act as a representative of the Talbot Collection.
- Communicate with internal and external guests in a professional and respectful manner.
- Help present and protect the hotel’s four-star reputation in every interaction.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships across the team.
- Maintain strong knowledge of hotel services, facilities, and the wider Talbot Collection offering.
- Attend training sessions, shows, and promotional events when asked.
- Comply with all collection policies and any other reasonable task that falls within the scope of the role.
