Role Overview
The Junior Quantity Surveyor - Projects will support commercial and project activities across the full lifecycle of mechanical engineering works. This position involves cost control, procurement, subcontract administration, reporting, and close coordination with clients, design teams, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to every stage of the project, from tender paperwork and pricing support through to cost control, subcontractor evaluation, and procurement.
- Manage subcontract orders from initial award through to final account completion.
- Track and analyse business and project trends, then report findings clearly.
- Join client and customer commercial meetings and provide commercial input where required.
- Monitor programme compliance and issue weekly updates to the construction team comparing planned progress with actual progress.
- Review correspondence from employers, the design team, and subcontractors to flag contract-critical matters and prepare appropriate responses.
- Prepare a procurement plan/schedule for the project.
- Carry out regular site or works reviews to identify opportunities for cost reduction and value improvement.
Requirements
- A relevant degree is required.
- Demonstrated experience taking tenders from pricing stage through to client award.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Good time management and organisational ability.
- Understanding of piping measurements, isometrics, and P&ID drawings.
- Comfortable working collaboratively within a team and also independently to complete final accounts.
