Job description
Role overview
Unispace is hiring an Interior Designer for its Christchurch studio in New Zealand. The role focuses on shaping workplace environments for global brands, rapidly expanding businesses, and established industry players. This position is designed for a designer who wants to do more than create drawings and instead take ownership of projects from early strategy through final delivery.
You will be part of a globally recognised design-and-build organisation with 48 studios around the world. The company places equal importance on design quality, commercial outcomes, and client value.
What makes this opportunity different
This role gives you the chance to guide projects, steer creative direction, and develop strong client relationships while working with experienced professionals across design, strategy, construction, and delivery. You will help shape spaces from the first client conversation to the completed workplace, with the opportunity to present bold ideas and see them built in reality.
Key duties
- Take workplace and commercial interior projects from concept development through to construction.
- Create strong design stories and workplace strategies that support business and user needs.
- Produce imaginative design solutions that are also commercially sound.
- Confidently present ideas and progress updates to clients and senior stakeholders.
- Serve as a dependable client contact throughout the entire project journey.
- Run workshops, presentations, and design review sessions.
- Interpret client challenges and convert them into practical, high-value design outcomes.
- Partner with design, construction, delivery, and business development teams.
- Coordinate with external consultants such as MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and structural specialists.
- Protect the design intent as the project moves into and through delivery.
- Guide and support junior designers as needed.
- Help build a collaborative studio environment where innovation and high standards are encouraged.
What the employer is seeking
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in workplace, commercial, or corporate interior design projects, along with the ability to lead design conversations and work directly with clients. Strong concept thinking, space planning ability, and visual storytelling are important, as is experience with detailed construction documentation. Advanced Revit skills and familiarity with related design software are expected, along with excellent communication and presentation skills. A genuine interest in designing workplaces that balance aesthetics with commercial effectiveness is also important.
Why join Unispace
Unispace is not a conventional design consultancy. It combines strategy, design, and delivery in one business, giving designers greater project ownership and more opportunity to influence outcomes. You will work on fast-moving projects that have visible impact and progress to completion, while collaborating with experts across design, construction, and workplace strategy. The company also emphasises employee development, ambitious thinking, and long-term career growth.
