Role overview
This position calls for a seasoned HR leader to create and run the people function for a large remote mining project. The role is based in Brisbane, Australia, with regular travel to Papua New Guinea. It will play a key part in ensuring the workforce is planned, recruited, supported, and managed effectively so operations can run smoothly and remain sustainable over the long term.
What you will do
- Create workforce plans that match the needs of the operation.
- Direct hiring, onboarding, mobilisation, and deployment of employees.
- Handle employee relations and industrial relations matters such as contracts, grievances, and policy administration.
- Make sure all HR activities comply with employment laws, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Set up and run performance management, staff development, and leadership training initiatives.
- Manage compensation and benefits administration, payroll-related inputs, and workforce reporting.
- Build HR systems, reporting dashboards, and governance processes.
- Work closely with operations, community, security, and government stakeholders to deliver workforce goals.
What we are looking for
- At least 10 years of HR experience, ideally gained in mining, oil and gas, construction, or other remote operating environments.
- Hands-on knowledge of workforce mobilisation, industrial relations, and HR compliance.
- Proven experience setting up or leading HR functions in complex operational settings.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a similar field.
- Prior experience in Papua New Guinea or a comparable jurisdiction will be an advantage.
Location and travel
The role is based in Brisbane, Australia and requires regular travel to Papua New Guinea.
