MGallery Hotel Collection is seeking a Housekeeping Supervisor to join its Queenstown property in Otago, New Zealand. The role sits within a workplace that values care, kindness, sustainability, and community impact, while also supporting employee wellbeing and development.

Role purpose

In this position, you will partner with the Head Housekeeper to run the housekeeping operation efficiently and economically, while upholding high standards of cleanliness and guest care in a five-star boutique luxury environment. You will help direct day-to-day housekeeping activity with confidence, drawing on strong knowledge of brand values and service expectations.

Key duties

  • Assess workload and assign tasks to room attendants, experienced self-checkers, and team leaders.
  • Monitor team performance and suggest practical improvements based on observation and feedback.
  • Recognise guest preferences and help create personalised service experiences, sharing relevant information through the designated systems.
  • Carry out room inspections and maintain team productivity in line with hotel procedures.
  • Set up and maintain an ongoing on-the-job training programme to support service standards and assist staff with work-related issues.
  • Induct new team members into the department and hotel during their first week.
  • Ensure all team members follow service manuals, operating procedures, and brand standards.
  • Use guest feedback to improve service quality and product delivery.
  • Hold regular briefings and communicate relevant updates clearly to the team.
  • Allocate duties so all shift responsibilities are covered.
  • Lead positively and help maintain strong team morale.
  • Prepare weekly rosters at least 14 days in advance to balance productivity, guest service, and wage control.
  • Supervise staff in line with performance expectations.
  • Protect guest room security and control of keys.
  • Oversee the safe storage, distribution, and use of cleaning materials and equipment according to manufacturer and procedural guidance.
  • Be capable of supporting the hire and clean laundry operation, ensuring linen is used cost effectively and helping with inventories when requested.
  • Manage guest laundry and lost property correctly.
  • Work with Front Office and Maintenance to ensure rooms are ready and guest needs are met.
  • Handle special requests promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure VIP rooms are prepared with the correct amenities requested by Front Office.
  • Support communication and compliance around Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Help prepare and follow departmental safety procedures and safety plans.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by setting a good example.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks assigned by management.
  • When needed, assist with room attendant and public area cleaning tasks, including guest room, corridor, and storage-area cleaning.
  • Replenish guest supplies and advertising materials in bedrooms and bathrooms to the correct standards.
  • Process lost property according to procedure.
  • Complete programmed and scheduled cleaning tasks.
  • Handle guest laundry in line with hotel policy.
  • Use, clean, and report equipment carefully, including defective items.
  • Maintain housekeeping equipment to a high standard and assist with stocktakes.
  • Follow security procedures for keys and guest rooms, and report any suspicious people or items to management.
  • Use and store cleaning agents correctly in line with safety regulations and manufacturer instructions.

Qualifications and experience

  • At least 12 months of experience in a similar position, preferably in a five-star setting.
  • Strong ability to train and develop team members.
  • Awareness of current trends in service, presentation, and product standards.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and communicate effectively.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Strong numeracy, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stress constructively.

Additional information

This is a permanent part-time position with a minimum guaranteed 30 hours per week. The employer is not offering visa sponsorship for this role.
