Job description

Role overview

The Housekeeper will help keep a mental health residential care home clean, safe, comfortable, and inviting for residents, staff, and visitors. This role plays an important part in sustaining high standards of hygiene and infection prevention and control, while always protecting residents' dignity, privacy, and personal preferences.

Cleaning and housekeeping duties

  • Keep communal spaces, resident bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, and other assigned areas clean to a consistently high standard.
  • Carry out routine daily tasks as well as weekly and deep-cleaning work in line with the cleaning rota and company procedures.
  • Make sure furniture, fixtures, and equipment remain clean and well cared for.
  • Restock cleaning materials, toiletries, and other housekeeping supplies when needed.
  • Flag maintenance problems, hazards, damage, or faulty equipment without delay.
  • Dispose of waste safely and in line with organisational processes.

Infection prevention and control

  • Follow all IPC policies and procedures at all times.
  • Use approved cleaning and disinfection methods to reduce the risk of infection and cross-contamination.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals and products safely and in accordance with COSHH rules.
  • Use personal protective equipment correctly.
  • Support outbreak control measures when needed.
  • Keep cleaning logs and related records accurate and up to date.

Laundry duties

  • Collect, wash, dry, iron, and return residents' clothing and household linen according to procedure.
  • Treat residents' personal clothing with care and return items to the correct person.
  • Keep clean and dirty laundry separate to prevent contamination.
  • Report any missing or damaged items as required.

Resident wellbeing and support

  • Help maintain a homely and welcoming atmosphere for residents.
  • Communicate with residents in a polite, warm, and professional way.
  • Always respect privacy, dignity, choice, and independence.
  • Work with awareness of the needs of people living with mental health conditions and help support a therapeutic setting.
  • Respond appropriately to resident requests and escalate concerns to senior colleagues when needed.

Health and safety

  • Follow all relevant health and safety requirements and workplace procedures.
  • Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Use, store, and maintain cleaning equipment safely.
  • Follow safe manual handling practices where the work requires it.
  • Take part in compulsory training and ongoing development.

Location

This position is based at Laughton Croft Residential Home, DN21 3JF, in Gainsborough, England.

Requirements

Applicants should bring experience from cleaning, housekeeping, domestic work, or a care setting, along with a clear understanding of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control. The role also calls for someone who can work independently, follow detailed instructions, communicate well, and maintain a respectful and professional attitude.

Compliance

  • An enhanced DBS check may be required.

Additional information

Applicants must already be living in the UK. Sponsorship is not available for this position. The pay rate is £12.88 per hour, and the role is for 30 hours per week.
