Job description
Role overview
The General Practitioner will assess patients, identify medical conditions, provide treatment or prescriptions, and respond to health-related concerns. The role also includes carrying out medical screening programs for applicants and patients in line with Ministry of Health (MOH) and GCAA requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver outpatient care while adhering to the procedures and standards set by MOH and GCAA.
- Prescribe medication and arrange diagnostic tests to support clinical assessment.
- Manage both short-term and long-term conditions, while also offering preventive care and health guidance to applicants and patients.
- Collect, review, and maintain the patient’s medical, health, and developmental history.
- Carry out medical evaluations and refer cases that need care beyond primary healthcare.
- Review test and investigation findings, and direct patients to specialists when further assessment or treatment is required.
- Handle emergency situations and perform minor surgical interventions when necessary.
- Prepare medical and incident documentation related to investigations, complaint resolution, and employee treatment outcomes for management reporting.
- Support occupational health and safety initiatives, including vaccination programs, and educate employees on topics such as nutrition, lifestyle, basic health maintenance, and self-administration of medicines.
- Oversee the treatment room, side laboratory, and imaging area to maintain a safe, hazard-free environment.
- Continuously identify and control risks within clinical work areas and take preventive action where needed.
- Take part in audits of the medical centre or clinic.
- Guide and train medical staff to strengthen their knowledge, performance, and practical skills.
- Carry out additional tasks assigned by the line manager that fall within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and experience
- A Doctor of Medicine qualification is required, with a postgraduate degree preferred.
- A valid MOH license is mandatory.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and database systems is needed.
- Strong spoken and written English is required; Arabic is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of experience in a recognised healthcare provider as a general practitioner or in a comparable role.
- Ability to work on a 24-hour shift rotation or roster.
- Willingness and ability to build competency in Aviation Medicine.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Additional information
This role requires compliance with medical and occupational health regulations, participation in clinic audits, and collaboration across treatment, laboratory, and imaging functions. The position also includes staff coaching and support for aviation-related medical competency development.
