About Sela

Sela builds a market-leading AI voice agent for mortgage lenders. Founded in mid-2024, the company has already signed 5 of the 10 largest independent mortgage banks in the U.S. as enterprise customers. In its first 16 months, revenue grew from roughly $0 to $8.6M annualized, and the product now handles about 500,000 calls each day.

The company believes AI will soon originate most mortgages and is aiming to lead that shift. Sela is positioned as a strong contender in the space and is working toward making mortgages 1% cheaper for everyone while building a durable business along the way. The team currently has 15 people, has raised $21M across Seed and Series A, and expects to hire about 40 more people over the next 12 months across engineering, product, sales, and other functions.

Role Overview

This position is Sela’s first in-house recruiter role. You will not be stepping into an established recruiting system; instead, you will design and launch the function from the beginning. The role covers end-to-end hiring across operations, engineering, product, and go-to-market teams.

You will be responsible for setting up the ATS, strengthening sourcing efforts, shaping the candidate journey, and serving as a trusted partner to the CEO, Nate, and hiring managers to help close critical hires quickly and at a high standard.

This is a hands-on recruiting role, not a coordination position. The company is looking for someone who can source, close, and build scalable hiring processes at the same time, ideally with prior experience in an early-stage environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for both technical and non-technical positions, from initial outreach through offer acceptance.
  • Design and run the sourcing approach using tools and channels such as JuiceBox, LinkedIn Recruiter, outbound campaigns, referral programs, marketing, and employer branding.
  • Implement and administer the ATS and wider recruiting toolkit from the ground up.
  • Work closely with Nate and hiring managers to define role needs, align on candidate profiles, and maintain speed throughout the process.
  • Build a candidate experience that reflects Sela’s culture and values.
  • Monitor funnel health and share insights on what is driving results.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, with substantial exposure to hiring for early-stage, fast-moving, high-growth teams.
  • Strong experience recruiting for operations, product, and go-to-market roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to source and close passive candidates using LinkedIn Recruiter or similar tools, rather than depending mainly on inbound applications.
  • Comfort using ATS platforms such as Ashby, Lever, or Greenhouse, along with sourcing tools.
  • Sound judgment for assessing talent beyond resumes, including the ability to evaluate candidates beyond titles and credentials.
  • Experience being the first recruiter, or among the first recruiters, in an early-stage company with little structure or playbook.
  • Ability to run outbound sourcing independently and stay organized without needing a coordinator.
  • Based in San Francisco and willing to work in office four days per week.
  • Bonus points for experience in fintech, AI, or voice technology companies.
  • Additional advantage if you have built an ATS or recruiting stack from scratch, hired go-to-market roles in a revenue-scaling company, or used modern recruiting tools such as Ashby, Gem, Juicebox, or AI-enabled recruiting workflows.
