Job description

Role overview

Mercury is a major European provider of construction solutions, delivering and managing complex engineering and construction programmes for leading global companies. The organisation supports projects across enterprise data centres, advanced technology, life sciences, hyperscale data centres, and fire protection. This role is based in Kildare, County Kildare, Ireland.

As an EHS Advisor, you will work alongside the Project Management team to put Mercury’s environmental, health and safety direction into practice for employees, contractors, and agency staff on site. The role supports the wider project EHS structure and helps ensure a consistent standard of safety across the project in line with group expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Apply and maintain Mercury’s safety management system on site so that EHS practices remain consistent across the project.
  • Support compliance with all relevant environmental, health and safety legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Help implement and monitor Mercury Engineering and PSCS/Main Contractor EHS plans for the project.
  • Work with the team to develop task-specific method statements, risk assessments, safe plans of action, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Assist in delivering the project execution plan from an EHS perspective.
  • Track and support project safety indicators reported through Mercury’s analytical reporting.
  • Promote and sustain strong safety habits and good practice throughout the site.
  • Take part in onboarding subcontractors and carry out regular contractor audits.
  • Ensure safety interventions are completed, recorded, and reported to the relevant EHS and project leaders.
  • Perform site audits and inspections, document findings, and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Support the expected audit activity for a Junior EHS Advisor, including one compliance audit per week, three safe plans of action per day depending on site numbers, and one environmental audit per month.
  • Join high-risk activity audits and subcontractor audits when required.
  • Take a proactive approach to meeting project and client EHS expectations.
  • Confirm subcontractor compliance with project and group EHS policies and procedures.
  • Attend internal and external project EHS meetings as needed.
  • Spend most of the working day on site, guiding, supporting, and educating the workforce on EHS matters.
  • Learn Mercury’s site EHS processes and apply them under the direction of senior EHS leadership.
  • Help coordinate and maintain induction and training activity in line with Mercury requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver toolbox talks as required.
  • Support accident investigations and learn from the project team during the process.
  • Check that welfare and hygiene facilities are available, maintained, and functioning properly.
  • Liaise with project management and client management on environmental, health, and safety matters.
  • Support waste reduction, recycling, sustainability, and wellness programmes according to project procedures.
  • Escalate significant EHS issues to senior project managers and the SBU EHS Lead.
  • Communicate EHS expectations clearly to the site workforce.
  • Carry out any other duties linked to the position.

Requirements

  • A Level 6 or Level 7 Safety Certificate, or an equivalent qualification, is required.
  • A Level 8 qualification such as an H-Dip or degree in Environmental, Health and Safety is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong working knowledge of current environmental, health and safety legislation is essential.
  • Ability to work flexibly when the project requires it.
  • Capability to support a wide range of EHS matters efficiently on site.
  • Good communication and computer skills.
  • Confidence to work independently and strong interpersonal ability.
  • Construction operations experience is helpful, though not essential.
  • Professional certification is required.
  • Willingness to travel may be necessary for the role.
  • A second language relevant to the region would be an advantage.
  • Attention to detail, teamwork, leadership capability, and the ability to manage contractor and general contractor relationships are desirable.
