About the Role
Save the Children is seeking a dedicated Driver to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of staff, visitors, and materials. This role involves managing daily vehicle operations, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to all safety and security protocols. The Driver will play a crucial part in supporting the organization's project implementation by providing reliable transport services and contributing to the smooth functioning of logistical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide secure and timely transportation for Save the Children personnel and guests.
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking engine oil, coolant, and tire pressure, and ensure all lights and indicators are functional.
- Maintain a detailed logbook of all journeys, recording mileage, fuel consumption, and any maintenance performed.
- Ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean, fueled, and regularly serviced according to the maintenance schedule.
- Handle all vehicle accessories, tools, and spare tires with care.
- Strictly adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Report any accidents or vehicle malfunctions immediately to the Logistic and Admin Officer.
- Safely load and unload materials, ensuring their proper handling.
- Undertake minor vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Maintain the visibility of the Save the Children logo on the vehicle, unless safety concerns dictate otherwise.
- Park the vehicle in secure locations during and after working hours.
- Handle confidential matters with discretion.
- Respect the cultural and religious diversity of communities and individuals encountered.
- Ensure all passengers, including oneself, use seat belts at all times.
- Follow organizational policies and procedures, including safety and security guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of 12th grade or equivalent; a diploma or certificate in Auto Mechanics is advantageous.
- Possession of a valid 3rd grade driving license.
- A minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience, preferably with international NGOs or governmental organizations, and a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and in challenging environmental conditions.
- Proficiency in the local Afar language is required, with good English communication skills (written and oral) being beneficial.
- Basic computer literacy is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures is advantageous.
