Job description

About the Organisation

Wragby Surgery is seeking a dispenser to join its approachable and supportive team, which includes GPs, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, and non-clinical colleagues. The surgery is purpose-built and serves the town of Wragby as well as nearby villages, with a focus on delivering high-quality, friendly, and accessible primary care.

This role offers the chance to contribute directly to patient care by helping ensure medicines are supplied safely, accurately, and with a warm, personal service.

Role Overview

As a Dispenser, you will handle the safe and accurate dispensing of prescriptions, maintain dispensary inventory, and deliver strong patient-facing service. You will work alongside the clinical and wider practice teams to support smooth, efficient, and safe dispensing operations.

Key Duties

  • Prepare repeat and acute prescriptions with accuracy.
  • Explain medication information to patients in a clear, friendly, and helpful way.
  • Collect prescription fees and make sure the patient declaration on the back of the prescription is completed and signed.
  • Monitor, order, and manage dispensary stock.
  • Store medicines correctly and maintain effective stock control.
  • Keep shelves, work areas, and dispensary equipment clean, orderly, and in proper working condition.
  • Respond quickly to any drug safety alerts or bulletins received.
  • Assist the clinical team with prescription-related queries.
  • Carry out any additional tasks needed to preserve a high-quality and efficient dispensing service.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will be a qualified dispenser with NVQ Level 2 for Dispensing Doctors or an equivalent BTEC qualification, and will align with the surgery’s values of excellence, compassion, respect, and patient-centred care.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong focus on accuracy and detail.
  • Good time management and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Confident communication and interpersonal ability.
  • Composure and steadiness when working under pressure.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work with colleagues to put solutions into practice.

Experience

  • Background in providing excellent patient service.
  • Experience working with confidential information.

Personal Qualities

  • Friendly, welcoming, and easy to approach.
  • Capable of using initiative when needed.
  • Precise, careful, and accurate in day-to-day work.
  • Methodical, organised, and tidy in approach.
  • A strong team player who works well in an integrated, multi-skilled environment.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and welcoming workplace.
  • Access to the NHS pension scheme.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference to patients every day.

Pay

The rate of pay is £13.30 per hour plus pension, depending on experience and qualifications.
