About the Role
The University of Canterbury Library, located in Christchurch, New Zealand, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Digitisation Coordinator to join the Macmillan Brown Library team. This role is crucial for supporting the library's initiatives in digitisation and digital access, focusing on photographic digitisation of cultural heritage collections. You will collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to ensure accurate record-keeping, metadata maintenance, and contribute to best practices in digital preservation and access.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake photographic digitisation of cultural heritage materials.
- Manage and coordinate digitisation service delivery workflows and projects.
- Maintain accurate digital records and associated metadata.
- Support digital preservation and access activities for collections.
- Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the improvement of digitisation processes and documentation.
About You
We are looking for a technically proficient and highly organised professional with a genuine passion for cultural heritage, preservation, and digital access. Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of three to five years of administrative experience within a tertiary education, professional services, or GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) organisation, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
- Proven experience in digitising cultural heritage items, including archives, artworks, photographs, negatives, manuscripts, and rare books.
- Proficiency in photographic imaging techniques, lighting systems, digital capture equipment, and image editing software.
- Experience with metadata standards, digital asset management systems, and digital production workflows.
- Familiarity with digital preservation principles, file management, and digital archiving practices.
- Exceptional organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder relationship management abilities.
- An understanding of and sensitivity towards cultural issues concerning Māori and Pacific collections.
- Alignment with the organisation's values and culture, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace.
Working With Us
You will be an integral part of the UC Library’s Macmillan Brown Library team, working closely with collection specialists, librarians, researchers, and external partners. This role reports to the Manager, Cultural Heritage and Macmillan Brown Library, and will play a key role in digitisation projects that enhance teaching, research, public engagement, and long-term preservation.
Additional Information
This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week, 1.0 FTE) based in Christchurch, New Zealand. The role is classified as Band 4.
