Job description

About the role

This position sits within the Chrome data science organization in Munich and supports product decisions for a global browser used by more than a billion people. The work combines research and product analytics to solve complex problems using statistical methods, experimentation, forecasting, predictive modeling, human evaluation, and exploratory analysis. The team focuses on building behavioral insights and measurement frameworks that help create context-aware AI features and agentic experiences, while ensuring the browser remains fast, secure, and useful across major platforms including iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS. Chrome is also developed as an open source project to help the broader web ecosystem benefit from innovations in speed, simplicity, and security.

Minimum qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years working with statistical analysis, data mining, and query-based analysis such as SQL.
  • At least 2 years leading investigative or analytical projects.

Preferred qualifications

  • A master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another quantitative field.
  • At least 3 years of experience using scripting and statistical tools such as R, Stata, SPSS, or SAS, along with metrics development and program or product evaluation.
  • At least 1 year working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience operating in environments with close leadership and stakeholder review.
  • Ability to frame product questions, work with large datasets in SQL, BigQuery, or similar systems, and use statistical methods to reach conclusions.
  • Strong capability to turn analysis into business recommendations, supported by excellent written and verbal communication, sound problem solving, and strong business judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced statistical techniques to very large and complex datasets spanning billions of events and many organizational sources.
  • Study AI product and platform usage patterns and convert findings into practical product and engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate across Research, Engineering, and Product teams, including groups such as Google DeepMind, Search, and Shopping, to turn ambiguous data problems into strategic opportunities.
  • Present clear and concise recommendations that influence product and engineering direction.
  • Bring strong interest in metrics, trends, measurement, statistics, and program evaluation to support decision-making.

Compensation

The role is eligible for an annual pay range in Germany of €100,000 to €103,000, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits. Final pay depends on role-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
