Job description

Job Overview

The custodian is accountable for keeping assigned spaces clean, sanitary, and orderly while supporting safe day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general janitorial work and complete all tasks listed on the daily schedule.
  • Handle hazardous waste duties such as collecting, sorting, classifying, storing, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging special and hazardous waste materials.
  • Use motorized cleaning equipment as required.
  • Maintain the assigned area each day and keep the work area neat.
  • Report incidents and any unsafe or hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
  • Follow safety rules, company policies, procedures, and protocols at all times.
  • Actively stop unsafe behavior in yourself and others.
  • Work cooperatively with team members and support shift lead with punch-list tasks.
  • Complete repetitive duties reliably and step in during staff shortages when needed.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment and maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
  • Follow direction, respond appropriately to supervision, and maintain a focus on customer service and satisfaction.
  • Understand reporting systems and environmental practices related to the role.

Requirements

  • No specific formal education is required.
  • 3 to 6 months of training or prior experience is preferred, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Completion of all safety and task training certifications is required.
  • Forklift certification may be required.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and related documents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment maintenance, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Willingness to share cleaning knowledge and techniques with the team.
  • Bilingual ability is an advantage.
  • No supervisory responsibilities are attached to this position.
  • The role requires frequent sitting and speaking/listening, and the ability to lift or move up to 35 pounds.

Compensation and Schedule

This is a full-time onsite position based at Amazon in Saskatchewan, Canada. The shift runs Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 pm to 2:30 am. Pay is $17 to $18 per hour.
