Job description
Overview
The California Department of Justice is seeking a Crime Analyst II to support the Special Agent-in-Charge, Special Agent Supervisor, Special Agents, and Task Force Agents in investigations involving criminal tobacco organizations. This role is part of the TRUE Task Force and centers on underground economy investigations, with an emphasis on analysis, reporting, and administrative coordination.
The analyst will be expected to handle consultative work such as program evaluation, policy analysis, planning, and training. The position calls for strong judgment, initiative, independence, and originality, along with clear communication and solid analytical ability.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Los Angeles County and assigned to the Los Angeles Regional Office within the Division of Law Enforcement, Bureau of Investigation. The job is performed in office. The work week is Monday through Friday.
Classification salary range: $5,189.00 to $6,701.00. Candidates new to state service will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification, or the minimum of the alternate range if applicable. There is 1 opening.
Responsibilities
- Support special agents and task force personnel in criminal tobacco investigations.
- Perform analytical work related to underground economy investigations.
- Carry out consultative assignments in program evaluation, policy review, planning, and training.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare statistical reports for the TRUE Task Force.
- Contribute to TRUE tobacco investigations through data analysis and investigative support.
- Apply sound judgment, initiative, independence, and originality in day-to-day work.
Requirements
- Strong analytical capability and the ability to work with investigative data.
- Experience or familiarity with record keeping and statistical reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of independence and sound judgment.
- Capacity to support policy analysis, planning, evaluation, and training activities.
- Willingness to work onsite in Los Angeles County on a Monday through Friday schedule.
