Job description

About Giga Energy

Join Giga Energy, a company operating at an unprecedented pace to build the future of AI infrastructure. We offer a dynamic environment where every team member contributes directly to impactful work, free from bureaucratic layers. Our team comprises top talent from leading innovative companies, drawn to Giga by the significant impact of our mission. We are the essential power providers for the AI revolution, positioning ourselves at the forefront of an exploding industry.

What You'll Do

As the Corporate Controller at Giga, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial integrity of a company central to the AI infrastructure boom. This role is far from a routine accounting position; it is critical for supporting Giga’s capital decisions, regulatory strategies, and scaling operations. You will guide an accounting team through the complexities of multi-entity consolidations, manage the technical accounting requirements of a rapidly growing business, and support the finance team in securing debt and equity capital for proprietary AI infrastructure development. This is an opportunity to build something significant and shape the financial foundation of a category-defining company.

Work Environment

We foster an in-office culture to maximize velocity, especially crucial for building physical infrastructure, as we believe the best decisions are made collaboratively in person. This position is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with a standard full-time onsite expectation, including bi-weekly work-from-home Fridays. However, we are open to making exceptions for exceptionally qualified candidates residing outside our primary hubs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all facets of technical accounting, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), asset capitalization, and the accounting for intricate debt and equity instruments.
  • Act as the company's foremost authority on US GAAP compliance, spearheading the development of accounting policies and ensuring their consistent application across all entities.
  • Lead and mentor the existing accounting team, establishing clear performance objectives, managing individual progress, and cultivating a high-performance culture.
  • Supervise the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing procedures, guaranteeing accuracy, punctuality, and constant audit readiness.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and direct the entire annual audit process from beginning to end.
  • Collaborate with legal, operations, and executive leadership to assess and account for complex transactions, such as project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and capital raising activities.
  • Develop and maintain a robust internal control framework, preparing the company for SOX compliance or equivalent standards as we scale towards a potential liquidity event.
  • Spearhead the implementation and enhancement of financial systems and ERP infrastructure to support business growth.

Requirements

  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including prior roles in public accounting (preferably with a Big 4 or national firm) and in-house Controller or VP of Finance positions.
  • Extensive expertise in technical accounting under US GAAP, with a proven track record of authoring and defending accounting memos for complex or non-standard transactions.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and developing accounting teams of at least three individuals.
  • Experience leading an annual external audit process from initiation through final sign-off.
  • Hands-on proficiency with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or comparable platforms, along with financial reporting tools.
  • A strong command of Excel or Google Sheets for financial modeling and analytical tasks.

Bonus Points

  • Previous experience in the energy, utilities, infrastructure, real estate, or other capital-intensive industries.
  • Familiarity with project finance structures or debt covenants.
  • Experience scaling a finance department through Series B or later-stage funding rounds, or during an IPO readiness initiative.
  • Exposure to multi-entity consolidations or managing international subsidiaries.

Benefits

  • Company-subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Stock options in a fast-growing startup.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% employer match.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Comprehensive parental leave policy.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Accounts (HSA) for healthcare and dependent care expenses.
  • Commuter benefits program.

Who We Hire

We seek individuals who excel in dynamic, high-pressure environments. Our ideal candidates are proactive, identifying needs and taking initiative without explicit direction. They are decisive, utilizing available information to act swiftly and adapt as necessary. We value getting things done over perfection, prioritizing individuals who demonstrate a strong execution mindset.
