Job description
Role overview
This opportunity is presented on behalf of a partner employer, which will handle all applications and subsequent hiring steps. The company is seeking a Construction Project Director to work from Germany.
In this senior leadership position, you will carry complete strategic and operational accountability for delivering major, high-value construction projects across Europe. The role requires a blend of technical depth, commercial awareness, team leadership, and executive oversight to ensure projects are completed safely, profitably, and to a high standard.
You will manage multidisciplinary construction teams and oversee complex building envelope assignments, including roofing, cladding, and façade work. A major focus of the job is to work closely with clients, stakeholders, and internal leaders so that each project moves smoothly from planning through to handover.
You will also be expected to improve efficiency, manage risk, and protect profitability while handling several projects at the same time. A strong on-site presence is essential, along with consistent delivery standards across international locations. This is a high-impact role where your decisions directly influence project outcomes, customer satisfaction, and business growth.
Key accountabilities
- Set the direction for construction teams and ensure work is delivered with strong operational control, disciplined cost management, and healthy project margins.
- Own the full lifecycle of large construction projects, from early planning and resourcing through execution and final completion.
- Build and maintain detailed programmes that cover milestones, critical paths, and resource plans across several European sites.
- Handle international project logistics, including workforce scheduling, travel, accommodation, permit coordination, and HSE compliance.
- Make sure all work meets design intent, quality expectations, safety requirements, and contractual commitments.
- Maintain effective relationships with clients and stakeholders through clear, regular communication across the project timeline.
- Track commercial and operational risks, escalate issues promptly, and drive timely resolution.
- Keep site progress records, reporting, and governance documentation up to date so senior leaders can make informed decisions.
- Participate in senior leadership discussions and provide strategic updates and recommendations to executive stakeholders.
Requirements
The role calls for a seasoned construction leader with substantial experience in project management or senior operational roles. The ideal candidate will have spent at least 15 years working at a senior level in roofing, cladding, façades, or closely related building envelope sectors.
A degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Science, or a similar technical field is required. The successful applicant should have a strong record of delivering medium to large projects across multiple sites or regions.
Technical understanding of roofing systems, cladding, façade systems, construction techniques, and health and safety rules is essential. In addition, the role needs solid commercial judgement, including budget control, cost discipline, and an understanding of what drives profitability.
You should also bring strong leadership, coordination, planning, and stakeholder management skills, along with the ability to manage several active projects at once. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected, and experience with tools such as Microsoft Project would be an advantage. The role also requires a client-focused approach, confident communication and negotiation abilities, adaptability, resilience, a valid driver’s licence, fluency in English, and the ability to be based in the UK, Ireland, or mainland Europe.
Benefits
- Private medical cover.
- Pension or retirement savings support.
- Paid leave and annual vacation entitlement.
- Flexible or hybrid working options depending on project requirements.
- Access to training and professional development to help advance your career.
- Performance-related bonus potential.
- The chance to lead major international construction projects across Europe.
- Senior-level autonomy with direct input into strategic project and business decisions.
