Job description

About the organisation

Datacom partners with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand, using technology to improve outcomes for people and help businesses innovate and expand.

About the opportunity

Datacom is seeking a commercially minded Commercial Analyst to join its Commercial & Bids function. The role suits someone who is strong in financial modelling and comfortable using AI-assisted analysis to improve accuracy, speed, and insight.

You will work across pricing, deal economics, bid support, and contract governance within a fast-moving SaaS portfolio. The position calls for sound commercial judgement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use AI tools for scenario modelling, bid content review, and contract risk analysis while applying your own commercial oversight to every output.

Key accountabilities

  • Create and update pricing models for SaaS offerings and support scenario planning for complex opportunities.
  • Analyse cost-to-serve, margin performance, and market pricing to strengthen deal strategy.
  • Assist with business case preparation and assess opportunities for major pursuits.
  • Monitor and report on commercial outcomes such as ACV, discount levels, and margin trends.
  • Prepare pricing schedules, commercial wording, compliance materials, and related documentation for bid submissions.
  • Keep bid libraries and commercial assets accurate, current, and easy to reuse.
  • Support contract governance by reviewing commercial terms and highlighting risks.
  • Apply AI-enabled tools for pricing analysis, bid-quality checks, and contract risk identification, including prompt-based workflow improvement.
  • Use AI tools to review historical bid results and extract patterns that can improve future submissions.
  • Track commercial metrics and pipeline activity across bids and opportunities.

What the role requires

The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial thinking, analytical capability, and a high degree of accuracy. You should be comfortable managing several opportunities at the same time and working closely with stakeholders across commercial, sales, bid, and product teams.

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in commercial analysis, pricing, bid support, or deal desk work.
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical capability, including margin, cost-to-serve, and scenario analysis.
  • Background supporting bids, proposals, or commercial responses.
  • Confidence using spreadsheets and data analysis tools.
  • Clear written communication skills for producing accurate commercial content.
  • Confidence using AI tools in commercial work, with interest in prompt engineering to automate and quality-check outputs.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle competing deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field.

Highly regarded experience

  • Exposure to a B2B SaaS or multi-product technology environment.
  • Experience with government procurement, ANZ public sector requirements, or enterprise contract negotiation.
  • Familiarity with AI or automation tools for analysis, document creation, or quality review.
  • Understanding of SaaS commercial metrics such as ARR, ACV, CAC, and LTV.
  • SQL or other data-querying experience.
  • APMP certification, bid management training, or financial modelling qualifications.
