Job Description

The Unclaimed Property Division of the Colorado State Treasury seeks a Claims Processor to manage and process owner claims in accordance with the Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act (RUUPA). This role involves interpreting and applying state law to claim reviews, requesting necessary documentation, investigating ownership validity, and maintaining meticulous claim files. The position also includes significant customer interaction, answering inquiries via phone and email, providing claim status updates, and assisting individuals with the claims process. Additionally, the Claims Processor will represent the Division at public outreach events, engaging with attendees and facilitating on-the-spot claim creation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and review submitted claims to ensure documentation sufficiency and consistency with reporting entities.
  • Request supplementary information from claimants or holders as needed for claim adjudication.
  • Conduct investigations to validate ownership through submitted documents and external resources like Lexis Nexis/Accurint.
  • Maintain organized claims files, documenting final dispositions and detailed analyses.
  • Respond to claimant inquiries via phone hotline and email regarding property status and the claims process.
  • Distribute appropriate forms to claimants and manage claim filings.
  • Gather necessary additional documentation from claimants through in-person, mail, or email communication.
  • Represent the Unclaimed Property Division at public outreach events, addressing inquiries and assisting with claim initiation.

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of two years of experience is required in documentation review for eligibility, customer service, or claims processing within a business context. Part-time experience will be prorated. An Associate's degree from an accredited institution can substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience within Colorado State Government.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical assistance.
  • Proven track record in reviewing and processing claims.
  • Experience in customer service, particularly in a high-volume in-person or call center setting.
  • Familiarity with compliance programs.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
