About the organisation
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is Europe’s largest comprehensive cancer centre and is known globally for high standards in patient care, research and education. Its Blood Sciences service runs across Chelsea, Cavendish Square and Sutton, and this vacancy is based at the Sutton site within an established team.
The Blood Sciences laboratories handle around 350,000 samples each year and support specialist cancer care through reliable diagnostic services. The laboratory is UKAS accredited against ISO 15189:2022 and places strong emphasis on safety, accuracy and prompt turnaround times.
Role overview
This Band 5 Biomedical Scientist role sits within the Blood Sciences team, with a focus on Biochemistry and related laboratory activities. The post involves analytical testing, maintaining quality standards, contributing to quality assurance work and helping the department run smoothly on a day-to-day basis. The laboratory operates around the clock, and there may be scope to take part in the out-of-hours rota.

Key duties
- Carry out analytical laboratory work as part of the Blood Sciences service.
- Rotate across the department’s sections as required.
- Work closely with colleagues in Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion and Haematology.
- Communicate and collaborate with staff across Pathology and the wider Trust.
- Support quality assurance processes and uphold laboratory standards.
- Contribute to efficient daily service delivery within a 24/7 environment.
Candidate profile
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist, or eligibility to register.
- Previous experience in a Biochemistry laboratory.
- Good organisational ability, technical capability and communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
