Role overview
A well-established and expanding construction company in Galway is looking for a Bid Writer to join its on-site team on a permanent full-time basis. This opportunity suits someone who is highly detail-focused, understands the construction sector well, and has a strong history of producing persuasive tender submissions that help secure work.
The role is central to winning new contracts by developing clear, compliant, and competitive bid documents for a variety of construction projects.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of preparing, drafting, and submitting strong tender and bid documents.
- Review tender packs, identify critical requirements, and coordinate information from technical, commercial, and operational colleagues.
- Write responses that are concise, compelling, and customised to each opportunity.
- Make sure every submission meets client instructions, deadline expectations, and relevant industry rules.
- Work closely with estimators, project managers, and senior leaders to collect technical and project-specific details.
- Handle the end-to-end bid process, including PQQs, EOIs, and full tender responses.
- Keep bid content, case studies, and supporting material up to date in the content library.
- Refine bid workflows, templates, and the overall quality of submissions over time.
- Review completed submissions and feed learnings into future bids and process improvements.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Bid Writer or in a similar role within construction.
- Solid knowledge of construction methods, terminology, and how projects are delivered.
- A demonstrated record of producing successful bids in a competitive setting.
- Strong writing ability with the capacity to create polished, professional content.
- Good planning and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle several deadlines.
- Excellent accuracy and a strong commitment to compliance and detail.
- Confident use of Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable working on your own as well as part of a wider team.
- Experience with public-sector and private-sector tenders is preferred.
- Knowledge of Irish or UK tender portals and procurement procedures is preferred.
- A degree or similar qualification in Construction, Engineering, Business, or a related subject is preferred.
- Experience creating bid strategies and win themes is preferred.
- Personal qualities expected include motivation, initiative, a strong work ethic, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, effective stakeholder communication, and adaptability in a fast-moving environment.
