Job description
Role overview
J D Wetherspoon is hiring bar staff for The Raymond Mays in Bourne. This position offers a wage of £12.81 per hour and is designed for someone who enjoys fast-paced, customer-facing work in a pub setting.
What they are looking for
The company is seeking upbeat, motivated and passionate people who can fit into a busy team. You do not need previous experience, as training will be provided. A positive attitude, a readiness to learn and the ability to stay composed when things get hectic are the main qualities they want. This opportunity may suit you whether you want a long-term path or extra shifts, as long as you are dependable, approachable and comfortable working with others.
What the job involves
Your main responsibility will be supporting the team to serve food and drinks accurately and efficiently, while keeping standards high for cleanliness, safety and customer service. The pubs operate from early morning until late at night, so the role includes flexible scheduling across mornings, evenings, weekends and late finishes.
Key duties
- Take customer orders, prepare and serve drinks to the correct standard, either at the bar or through the customer app.
- Deliver food to guests and complete check-backs, making sure plates are cleared within the expected time.
- Offer warm, polite interactions by greeting customers, thanking them and building a friendly rapport.
- Stay informed about promotions, events and new products so you can answer customer queries confidently.
- Keep the venue tidy by following “clean as you go” practices, including table clearing, wiping surfaces and carrying out toilet checks.
- Support other operational areas when needed, such as glass washing, replenishing fridges, clearing floors and the beer garden, and handling other general tasks.
Growth and development
Many current team leaders and managers began their careers in the kitchen or behind the bar. If you want to move forward, the company can support you through structured on-the-job learning, apprenticeships, management academies, cross-training into kitchen or hotel work, and progression into roles such as team leader, kitchen shift leader or pub manager.
Working conditions and additional information
The role is based on a 15-hour working week, with flexible hours across Monday to Sunday. Weekly hours for every day are listed as flexible. Wetherspoon promotes an inclusive workplace where people are welcome regardless of background, preferences or beliefs. Under-18s may be paid at a lower rate, in line with national guidelines and usually above them. If applications are very high, the vacancy may close before the stated closing date of 20-06-2026.
Pay and benefits
- Competitive hourly pay of £12.81.
- Free meal and drink while on shift.
- 20% discount on food, drinks and hotel accommodation for you and up to three guests when off duty.
- Extra £1 per hour for work completed between midnight and 5:59am.
- Bonus scheme with earnings of up to 19% of pay.
- Choice of guaranteed-hours or variable-hours contracts.
- Paid holiday.
- Free shares after a qualifying period.
- Loyalty rewards.
