Role overview

QBE Insurance is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to join its Christchurch team in a permanent, full-time position. This role is centered on administration support and plays an important part in assisting the underwriting team across Property, Motor, and Liability portfolios. It offers the chance to work independently while still being part of a collaborative team environment.

Working arrangement

This is a Christchurch-based role with full-time hours. After the required training period, the position follows a flexible hybrid model with a minimum of three days each week spent in the office.

Key duties

Reporting to the Team Leader - Administration, you will help keep underwriting operations running smoothly and contribute to consistent service quality. The role includes support across insurance policy administration, credit control activities, and internal coordination.

  • Assist with policy administration for new business, mid-term changes, renewals, cancellations, and lapses.
  • Help with credit control tasks, issue Certificates of Insurance, and process policies and schedules.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication and productive working relationships with internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of assigned work. A strong service mindset, accuracy, and the ability to work well with others are essential.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in an administration role with a strong eye for detail.
  • Ability to balance several priorities and use sound judgment when deciding next steps.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, along with solid interpersonal ability.
  • Confidence working in Excel and openness to learning new systems and processes.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
