Job description
Role purpose and business impact
This position is responsible for taking complete ownership of the store and driving its commercial performance. The role requires using store data to question current practices, identify improvement areas, and work with the District Manager or other retail back-office partners whenever support is needed. A key focus is to raise sales, productivity, and profitability while protecting the store’s legal and financial integrity.
Key responsibilities
- Lead by example on the sales floor, spending maximum time selling and guiding the team in customer-facing activities.
- Make sure a manager is always available on the shop floor to keep the team focused on customers and sales when you are not personally covering that duty.
- Plan staff schedules so customer service remains strong, sales targets are supported, and operational tasks are completed.
- Act as a brand representative by consistently demonstrating the company’s attitude and values.
- Ensure in-store brand execution follows the required standards and directions.
- Train all store team members on core and seasonal brand and product knowledge.
- Run store operations in a structured and efficient way in line with policies and procedures.
- Maintain visual merchandising and in-store communication standards at all times.
- Ensure goods received are processed on the same day and made available to customers quickly and easily.
- Handle cash register transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Implement loss prevention policies and procedures to reduce shrinkage and protect assets.
- Maintain a secure, safe, and productive environment for customers and staff.
- Recruit and train store team members as required.
- Ensure compliance with all HR policies and procedures.
- Build a high-performance culture through clear expectations, performance review, timely feedback, and active handling of underperformance.
- Work with the District Manager to identify and develop strong performers with growth potential in the retail field career path.
- Share effective practices that help improve the performance of stores across the district.
- Complete all required training and apply the learning effectively in day-to-day work.
- Actively seek coaching and development opportunities to keep improving performance.
Stakeholders and working relationships
This role involves regular interaction with customers, peers, supervisors, vendors, support functions such as visual merchandising and facility services, and local administration including mall management.
Qualifications and other requirements
Applicants must hold a graduate or postgraduate degree from a recognized university. The role requires at least 18 months of experience in a sports or fashion retail environment with customer and commercial focus, including a minimum of 12 months in store management. Strong verbal communication skills are essential, along with intermediate numeracy and literacy.
