About the role
Serco is offering an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work in a role that supports both professional development and personal wellbeing. This position is based at the Navy Synthetic Warfighting Centre and focuses on delivering advanced synthetic warfare training for the Royal Australian Navy.
As an Assistant Instructor, you will work closely with Senior Instructors and Defence stakeholders to help prepare, set up and run simulation-based training events. Your contribution will help strengthen Navy capability through realistic and high-quality training delivery.

Key responsibilities
- Assist in delivering Advanced Tactical Training programs
- Maintain simulator databases, build entities, and support scenario development
- Set up, configure, and monitor combat system trainers and communications equipment
- Carry out system operability checks and report any technical faults
- Support simulation activities by emulating air and maritime assets
- Provide user training and contribute to ongoing improvement efforts
What you should bring
To be successful in this role, you should have strong experience with Naval Combat Management Systems, a solid grasp of Royal Australian Navy operations, doctrine, and warfighting principles, and detailed familiarity with ADF exercises and operational needs. Experience in Defence training settings, particularly synthetic warfare, will be highly regarded.
You’ll need strong communication skills and confidence when working with Defence stakeholders. You must be able to obtain and maintain an NV2 or higher defence security clearance, and be willing to complete Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
A relevant operational background would be an advantage, such as experience as an Air Battlespace Manager, simulation pilot, ASW fixed- or rotary-wing sensor operator, anti-submarine aircraft controller, or in a similar Defence capability role.
