Job description

Role Summary

This full-time adjuster trainee role is focused on examining insurance claims, gathering the facts needed to assess them accurately, and helping move settlements forward efficiently. The position is based in Davis, Oklahoma, and the selected candidate must live in one of these counties: Garvin, Murray, Carter, Jefferson, Love, Johnston, Marshall, or Bryan. This role also includes benefits.

Compensation

The position is offered at an annual pay rate of $50,000.

What You Will Do

  • Handle claims across all insurance lines within the assigned area and authority, managing the full process from first notice through final settlement.
  • Work independently or alongside specialists on major losses, complicated liability or fire damage matters, catastrophe claims, multiple bodily injury claims, and cases involving litigation.
  • Collect claim-related information by phone, mail, or in person, including loss details, statements from insureds, witnesses and claimants, medical and police records, estimates, appraisals, and photographs when needed.
  • Verify coverage for new claims, establish reserve amounts, follow up on missing information, maintain diary notes for scheduled file reviews, and send payments or correspondence as appropriate.
  • Review all gathered materials and use them to assess coverage, liability, and loss severity, then prepare claims summaries.
  • Resolve claims within assigned authority, issue payment drafts or checks, secure required liability releases, and close claim files once settled.
  • Consult with the District Claims Manager when a claim is complicated or when possible exposure is above your settlement authority.
  • Periodically review open files, obtain any additional information needed, and adjust reserves when necessary.
  • Travel to county offices as required and join storm response teams to assist with catastrophe-related losses.
  • Keep the company vehicle in usable condition and submit a weekly expense report.

Competencies and Working Style

The ideal candidate should bring strong analysis, sound judgment, professionalism, confidentiality, and a customer-focused approach. Clear verbal and written communication, organization, adaptability, reliability, and the ability to handle pressure, long hours, and changing workloads are important.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred, or two to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. Ongoing continuing education is expected.

Knowledge, Skills, and Licenses

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence, and present information clearly to managers, departments, insureds, third parties, witnesses, doctors, attorneys, agents, county offices, and other insurers.
  • Comfort with basic math, including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, percentages, and interpreting charts.
  • Strong reasoning ability to solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization and interpret instructions in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer systems.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain an Oklahoma driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment.
  • Current Oklahoma adjuster license, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Investigative ability, strong people skills, and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to manage stress caused by heavy workloads, extended hours, and difficult interactions.
  • Willingness to work unscheduled hours and travel when needed.
